Yeah, they all come from the same story universe, so there's a heavy emphasis in all the sub-stories toward physical combat and dangerous magic and the usual grimdark business. I've tried on occasion to write different genres or different universes, but they all somehow just go creeping back to that main universe...like, suddenly character X from the main universe is here! And oh no, now everything's gone terribly wrong and instead of having the, like, YA or romance or slice-of-life genre story I started out with, I just have the same thing I usually write with a bit of the other genre left in. That's how I ended up with a bunch of detectives running around the main canon, I believe, lol.
Writers should try to mix things up, I think, but I don't think I, as a writer, am ready to go whole-heartedly off down that road yet. I don't feel excited about writing things outside of my main universe. I think that's my brain telling me I really ought to finish writing this canon first.
Do you write in a lot of different universes? Or just have a handful of main canons/universes?
