Probably. XD Its been happing like in the past few years from what I noticed. But I remember Owls mostly being apart of Halloween from my child hood. Probably just because they are part of the night and have BIG YELLOW EYES!

I don't think them scary at all. :p
But I did notice that owls have been in fashion lately. There's images of them everywhere; on shirts, necklaces, those kind of things... not that I mind. :p

Edit:
If you do the merman/mermaid you should make it purple, orange and black. Those are the three most common colors I see for them.
