I think that should be helpful. Just don't make it a "don't create mary-sues". Rather "what shall you do when the role play goes in the wrong direction and you can't see how your character should react?"

Personally I am more interested in stuff you don't get from general tips. Like... How to make your character behave the way they really would, and not the way you first think of? How to make others believe that your character commints random stuff because they really are so clumsy and absent-minded that they never really know what to do (and not because you are a bad player... 
)? How to stop being doubtful about the way you play (language, style, factual mistakes, uncontrollable characters, and so on and so forth) and just enjoy? etc...
Stuff like "learn the lore by heart" doesn't really help. People who are confident enough don't care for it anyway while those newbish players get next to no use out of it.
