Beware, extra long post ahead...you have been warned.
I feel the need to comment once again, especially after I've been following this thread and reading all of the other comments.
Yes, I do feel the prices are high, because of this, I don't think that I'll be using this service on the site.
However, as was pointed out by some other users (LCK and Foxy for sure), Firn never did intend to use Knuffels as items. Knuffels are her babies, they are like little animals. Once you've purchased one you are supposed to make a commitment to that Knuffel, same as if you were to get a kitten (or any other type of pet) in real life, and then you're to take care of it. That is the reason that they are not really to be exchanged between users.
I can see both sides of these arguments though. I will not personally be able to donate and I have not been able to donate for a while so purchasing these Knuffels, especially for such a price, I can not validate, because I have bills I need to take care of.
So yes, the prices are high. That does not mean that people have to purchase them. As some users did point out, if you do not like the price, do not purchase them. It's that simple. But the price is high because these were never intended to be re-released. At.All.Period. They were supposed to only be gotten one time and that was it.
Now, do I personally think the prices are too high? Yes. That's why I won't, myself, purchase them. But I think that Firn does have a reason for setting them that high. They were only to be released once AND they were never to be treated as items and to be freely traded.
Personally, I do not know how much it costs to run this site but, if what Foxy said is true and they've been in the red for almost two years, I can see the reasoning for something like this. I am not sure if I think this is the right way to go about it. I think that there might be something else that could be done, but, as owners of the site, I'm sure that they thought this through completely before deciding to do it. As owners, there is only so much that can be thought of to help a site out as well. I'm sure their mind are completely full of all these other things that they have to do with/on the site or that they're currently doing.
In my OWN opinion, I do think that the sales/donations would come in better if the prices were lowered some because I believe more people would be willing to give out smaller amounts for more Knuffels. For example, instead of one or two people donating $20 to pay for a Knuffel, 15 to 20 people might instead donate $5, a much smaller, more affordable amount. It would be a higher revenue.
However, that is my own opinion and I do not know if that is well based. I may prove to be wrong in my estimation as well. Only time will tell if I am wrong or right. If I'm right, maybe a price adjustment for the older Knuffels could then be looked into and then re-evaluated. However, this is only a suggestion.
I can see WHY they are such a price though, especially since they were not to be treated as items and they were only to be available once.
I can also understand why this would be such a hard thing for Firn to do. It would be like me putting my kitty babies that I have in real life up for sale. I would not EVER do it.
Personally, instead of doing this, I think that there's other options that could possibly be explored as various sources of revenue. Maybe a thread could be made to brainstorm ideas, especially if donations are so greatly needed. The whole community could have a say and Firn and Starkad could look through the different ideas and see if they think if any of them would work. It's a possibility and, with the owner's minds so focused on other things, maybe some fresh ideas could be gotten from the users that could provide with extra revenue to keep the site up. C:
