I've found that giving beggers bags of chips works better than giving them money.

see, when I was homeless, money would've been better, because then I could actually buy food outside of my pittance allowed each week from the food pantry. a good chunk of it was things I either couldn't eat, or had to eat quickly because it would go bad by the end of the week because of a lack of refrigeration

Yeah, but here, the guys will tell you flat out that they're going to buy booze. And also, there are pretty big fines for giving money.
Yeah. I gave up going to the food bank back when I was broke, because there wasn't anything there for me.

at least they're honest.
the pantry i went to didn't like that they couldn't give me more food each week.

The food bank people here tried to convince me that potatoes really wouldn't make me sick, and that I wanted macaroni. lol

I would get things like bags of dried beans. or instant mashed potato flakes. with no way of cooking them.

There are a couple-four tents down on shelves in the valley here among the trees. I can see two of them from the apartment windows. I pray they can keep the area clean, and that they get to stay in those good places instead of having to be crowded together downtown.
