For events where you have to collect things via pop-ups yes.
I am not sure whether it's rally necessary for the fairies though: They are so much rarer than any material and anyone who runs an auto-clicker to collect these would have failed the material-captcha hundred times before he gets to a fairy. (and by that time he would have been banned)
I would have to ask starkad whether there are auto-clickers that completely ignore the material and just go for the fairy, since I do not really know details like this. If that's the case than we would have to add captchas for fairies too.

If people really are that smart and lazy, then I have little doubt they could make a bot that searches only for the code that is used when a fairy appears.

When I first saw something like this, I picked the wrong item and dednt get anything... xD should've checked the announcements.... :(
EDIT: I also wasn't paying attention and picked the wrong item... :) lol (:

I like the Captcha. I haven't picked the wrong material yet so I haven't missed out on any materials. It's too bad this is needed though.

I found a material late at night..and it told me to pick the toy..so I looked over it..and picked..the ring. c-c' Instead of the sling shot. @_@' Lol... Of course, I almost picked the fish too. >': But that's the only time I've picked wrong so far. I'm glad it's not a word one. o_o' This one is more like a little game or something. I always fail at the word ones. >:

Well I don't think I clicked the wrong thing, it said click the jewellery and I clicked the ring then it said I had chosen the wrong one

i accidently pressed back after getting my material
and it said that I failed and it would be added to some list o_O

But sometimes I get scared if I pick the wrong one x__x
