Someday I'd like to try that, the tree-leaf-wrapped sushi!


Today I was boring. Cooked a pot of kasha in the morning.
So, for breakfast, it was kasha with milk and a bit of maple syrup and vanilla.
For lunch, kasha with collard greens, mushrooms, and kimchee.
For supper, the last of the kasha with some cheese and pesto.

It's a very versatile grain, is kasha.

Lunch was nian gao. All the nian gao. I don’t think it was made very well tho lol. XD;;
My mom also made eight treasure congee. It’s a sweet congee, not a savoury one.

I love reading this thread, I learn a lot of new (to me) things.

That being said, I often eat Chinese food without knowing the actual name of what I eat XD
And I have learnt about kasha, which you'd think would be easy to find in Japan since there are fields of it but they don't eat it that way, they do make tea with it though.

It's still morning so I ate a simple toast with lavender honey.

Wait you can make tea with kasha?
Is it like roasted barley tea, with roasted grains, where it's more of a darker flavor profile closer to coffee than tea? Or do they make it with another part of the plant and it's more like herbal teas?

Honey is so much fun to play with! I really like finding various types of local honeys. Is your lavender honey a honey that was from a hive in a lavender-heavy region or a honey that was fancied up with lavender added later?

It's like barley tea, you make it with roasted grains. I guess you could even try roasting it at home.
I don't even know how to describe it ^^

It's (French) honey from a hive in a lavender heavy region. It actually doesn't tastes much like lavender. Which I'm glad about because I don't like to eat lavender flavored things.
Fav honey is pine/fir trees honey. This thing is delicious though pretty strong for honey.

I made "Italian" Yaki udon ^^

Today I had some baby spinach going bad soon, so I made a salad of it and had a baked potato as a side. Stems, skin, and all, solid nutrition today.

I was pretty unhealthy today.... discount deli sandwich with who-knows-what-all went into those overly sweet and oily sauces they seem to drench pre-made foods in. I didn't have the courage to read the ingredient list.

Oh, well.
For snack later I had some very delicious radishes. We can pretend the one makes up for the other, right?

More leftovers for dinner. And stuffed fish that we got for CNY. What they literally do is take out all the bones of a particular fish, stuff it with fish maw/fish meat and then cook it. XD
