Kyle had been so distracted by the presence of his mother he hadn't actually noticed Helena's glare or her panic. By the time he had started heading out of the room she was already hurrying back to the bedroom. Sighing as he felt his mother closing in on the front door he managed to make it there right before she could. Opening the door he simply stared at her, waiting to see how she responded.
She was obviously thrown off by his sudden appearance. "Oh, I was not aware you were expecting me." She said politely, obviously unnerved. Kyle just looked at her. "I could sense you coming over, thought it would be polite to greet you. Isn't that what you always said?" He replied, returning her polite and yet rude comment with one of his own. "What was it you needed Mother?" While Kyle had chosen not to read Helena's mind, he was not exerting such control over his mothers. While her current intentions were unclear, you opinion of his appearance was not. "What is with that appearance darling, what would you do if you had real company?" She said, patting his shirt and smiling. "I was cleaning up after me and Helena, the staff is gone and we just finished breakfast." He knew this would annoy her, which is partially why he said it.
At this point she seemed to raise an eyebrow. "Really? Then why isn't she here?" His mother moved past him right as she had the thought, and without being rough there was no real way of stopping her. "She's in the room, preparing for the day. You know how woman need time to prepare." Kyle said, hoping to stop her before she marched upstairs. Sadly it did not work. "I'm sure she won't mind seeing her mother-in-law." His mother said, obviously suspecting something. She seemed to be under the impression that Helena had stopped him from showing up, which was true, but her reasoning was quite flawed. His mother hated losing things that she deemed hers, or at least what she could manipulate, and despite the fact Kyle tried to avoid this fate she still thought of him this way.
As she marched up the stairs, Kyle tried to talk her down to no avail. She ignored his comments and knocked on the door, barging in and politely insulting Helena. This itself annoyed him, as the reason was a bad one. Helena was in no way using her 'feminine wiles' to seduce him away from her. Besides, she was the one who'd chosen those outfits, you think his mother would choose one or the other. "I told you she was just changing, was this really necessary?" Kyle said, leaning on the door frame. His facial expression showed he was obviously annoyed. Having his parents, and brother, burst into the house was one thing but them harassing his wife-to-be (or anyone else for that matter) was another.
When Kyle looked at Helena, who was obviously quite uncomfortable (and for good reason), he was a bit taken aback by her quick transformation. She really knew what looked good on her, and she looked quite beautiful. No wonder his mother had responded so badly, she was quite a jealous woman. "Now Kyle, I believe it's time for a talk between girls, and we can't really have you hanging around." He mother said, trying to play that card. Kyle snapped out of it, and just smiled as a thought crossed his mind. "Helena had agreed to walk around the garden with me while it was still overcast, which as you can see will only last for a while longer." He responded quickly, adding the next part before she could start. "You're free to join us, I would just hate to waste such good weather, won't you?" This left her little choose but to leave the talk for later, or do it with Kyle there. Any attempt at forcing him out now would seem rude, something his mother would never do outright.
