I usually hide in my room and blast sad music.

I don't really. Food is about the only thing that makes me happy....and I'm fat enough as is.

But depression is more than just feeling sad. It can be feeling empty, which is worse in my opinion....nothing seems to improve that, but sadness can be worked into something else, you can improve your mood and stuff possibly, but once you become empty, it seems like nothing really helps.

Depends, I've got Bipolar 2, and I know a way that is hella unhealthy but, for me, can fully force a manic swing. I try not to do that though.

Other than that, I just, well, take care of myself. Showering and like, going somewhere helps. When I had a pet it helped a lot, it gave me purpose and kept the suicidal ideation at bay. Something needed me.

I've been dealing with depression and anxiety for half of my life and had to learn several different coping mechanisms, not all of which have been healthy but I am doing pretty well now. :mcheh:

First, counselling of any kind is always very helpful. I have done tons of individual as well as group therapy. Group was a very insightful and interesting experience and probably one of the most helpful now that I think of it. I also had a great psychiatrist for over 10 years who helped regulate my medication and talked to me. I am still on medication (It's been about 16 years) and am now trying to wean myself off of them with the help of my family doctor.

I find things like coloring, writing, reading, watching favorite movies, taking care of and being around animals and children, as well as gardening and being around nature helps me feel better when I am having bad days.

I'm hoping you have great days ahead :qh: :mccute:

i don't have depression per se as much as i have mood disorders in general, but music really helps me cope when things get hard. self care and allowing yourself to take a mental break has been beneficial to me also.

I agree, music is also an extremely good way to help with depression or other mood disorders.

I listen to angry music, and let it flow until it flows out of me. That's not a bad idea now that I'm no longer as suicidal as I used to be.

I had issues with suicidal tendencies when I was younger as well - I also agree that angry music is sometimes really wonderful to listen to when you are depressed or upset. You can pretend you are singing it to whatever you are pissed at, and just let it all out.

i try to make time to do something that cheers me up, painting, gardening, bird watching.
just distracting myself helps sometimes, or drinking whiskey & watching my favorite series "Outlander" or reading the book series :qh:
