Yes, my Gen 5 Water was leveled outside of his element. The highest one leveled in their element for me is at his Level 77 now. I got the former one about a month after my level 77, so it's really a huge difference later on although it's slow to level in the early levels.
He's almost there, Zia!

All my Knuffels are leveled outside their element. C: I started raising my first Knuffel in her element and then I switched after 5 levels. >_> (She's level 56 right now, but she was only adopted on 3/17/11!)

Aw, thanks everyone who's fed Aduser. about 75 clicks left! 
I have three Knuffel who've leveled outside of their element, and they bug me. They keep trying to level past the ones above them. I like mine to level according to their adopted date. *pouts*

That annoys me as well. :< I have a pair of twins that are competing with each other to level, and it always bothers me when the one I adopted later pulls ahead. At times, I've been tempted to not use some of the digs of the Knuffel that's ahead just to make things right again. =_=

Haha, I already don't dig with my lower level Knuffel for this problem! Not all the way through, and if I do, it's very rare that I do.

Hm , so knuffel that are digging outside their elements evolve faster? I should try that owo
Though if I change element now (my lowest leveled knuffel has 27 on earth), would that make any positive difference? Or I should start digging outside element if I buy new knuffel?

Better on a new one. If U want to check it, U may buy twins and evolve one in and out of the element. I prefer to keep them in their elements. Less confusion and more chances on digging

Interesting. Now I thought one of the things I read somewhere back when I first started was that they level slower outside their element, but the opposite is true?
And does no one really have the third stage of the current Dark yet? His numbers are getting low and I'm getting kinda worried about missing him. I really want to see that third stage before getting him. Anyone know who has the highest so far so I can help level?

I believe they get more outside of their element.
I started adding Darkness to my new fire knuffel.
I want to see how that turns out.
