I was always too protective of books. I didn't like seeing them get wet or anything. But eventually a lot of books in my house started falling apart because of how my younger siblings would handle them. :'D

Also hi, I needed places to chat and this thread seemed nice to start. XD

Welcome and hi!
Yeah, if I had come to books a little later in life, the protective instinct might have been strongest. As it was, they were my security blanket, and no one thought to tell the young child that attachment to books was unhealthy, so that the desire to always have one to hand (and feel uneasy without) was never blunted or modified. Some kids had stuffed animals in their beds, I refused to nap or go to bed at night without at least one book. :qhehe: Never did outgrow the impulse to cart them around all the time, just let the genres evolve instead. Ah, well.

Hehe, I'm the same way, sort of? I like having physical copies of books around me. Even though I honestly don't read as much as I used to... It ends up being me having little shopping sprees for books, but never actually flipping through them. So a lot of the books I bought for myself are still in mint condition. :mcheh:

Yeah, I like the physical reality of a book. Stories are lovely things in whatever form they come in, but a book is a wonderful thing.

I am way over protective of my books. I'm a true bibliophile (and no that is nothing sexual). Do have a lot of e-books but I will buy a hard copy if I really like it. :}

I don't actually have many ebooks. Trying to read much on it, my wrist starts giving fits, same as though I were trying to hold up a hardcover all the time. Normally it's simplest just to stick with paperbacks for the lightness and flexibility and give. Of course, this means that after a few re-readings, they start to show quite a bit of wear, but that's why I haunt used book stores and library book sales. :qsq:

I'd rather the actual book as well but sometimes its nice having them all on hand so that it's a handful of taps to change books instead of having to risk sogginess or whatever to get up and get the next one

I like ebooks because I can try them out and if I really like them I can buy them! Fun fun!

Also when I was a kid I slept with all kinds of weird things in my bed. Books, dolls (the hard plastic kind), knives, tape. All the strange things. I'm surprised that I didn't get stabbed to death in my sleep.

Even took an Athame with me to school camps. :}
