So chances are all the rocks have different colors, people just think specific colors for each rock

It's really fascinating how much colour variation there is even for these gems that are strongly associated with one colour.

I think the olive green sapphires they mention as "common but not very marketable" would be right up my alley. Too bad they didn't put a picture for them.

I also really like to get 'gemstones' in their original crystalline structures instead of faceted and polished up. It's cheaper, of course, but more than that I find it fascinating that they naturally form that way. Of course, some don't form crystals. I have a hunk of mica schist with garnets embedded in it, and they're round little nodules instead of actual crystals. But still.
