I'm also pretty well in between generations in the family too: too young for x too old for y
Older is, at best, late 20s, and younger drops to mid-teens
I know three that are close in age to me in comparison
I'm not particularly close to any of them
Okay I have to just stop and ask because I've never understood this age segregation thing.
Why / how can you be "too old" or "too young" for friends or family? How does that work? Is it just a thing where you try and see that you share experiences because you grew up on the same stuff? But then people don't watch/see/notice the same things anyhow, so... ?
What is it that makes it desirable that you should only associate with people close to you in age?
I mean, you just said you weren't close to any of the people who WERE closest to you in age, so it's not some automatic bond, so....
It's such a common thing, that I see all over, people mention it all the time, and I don't get it. I must be missing something obvious, but...
Understanding social interactions is NOT my strong point. I know it might be obvious, but I really don't get it.
Can you articulate it at all? Explain it even a little?

The older ones had similar interests to each other
I was excluded for being younger and different likes
The younger ones we're talking real little. Like at ten they were maybe two
If the older kids did include me, it was only cuz their parents told them to
And then it was generally stuff to get me out of the way like they hadn't been told to in the first place
Now that I'm sneaking 24, things really haven't gotten better at the family reunions
Now we're talking people 50+ for the older people, who are there to talk about the good old days blablabla, and, at the oldest, nine or ten, if his parents even decide to have their kids show up
So I'm left hanging
Similar age groups usually have similar interests and such, but not always
In my case, the lack of anyone really my age meant that I didn't really have anyone to have similar interests with within the family, so I had no one to talk to

Yeah, raising her was not fun at all. She seriously resented me for not being her mom. And I resented her for being a goddamned pain in the ass. And making my childhood so much worse. Not her fault, she was a kid. But we had such a hard time when we were young. We get along a lot better now.
Akili Li - I think that a lot of families keep the kids separate from the adults. Like when I was a kid I was often shooed away from the grown ups when they were gathering.
And the really little kids are super annoying so it's not fun to hang around them.
I think I like hanging out with people from like 12-60ish. Older people can be cool too, if you can keep them from drooling over Trump.

Ha ha, yeah, that's not a drooling problem with most of the elders around here; they're all too scared of him.
Hmmm, maybe it's a self-reinforcing social thing. If you don't hang out with people of different ages, you don't get exposed to the different things they're all involved in, so your own interests are not as broad.

I remember you said that when he was voted in some of them were having issues with flash backs.
I don't hang out with very many people at all. But I have very vast interests. lol.

Yeah, that uncle is gone now, he had a stroke. I'm impressed you remember that, though!
Ha ha, you're easy to get along with, too! Maybe it's nothing to do with age at all and that's a fallacy, and it's all personalities...

Aw, I'm sorry for your loss dear.
Yeah, I remember most of your stories. You are a fascinating person. You lead a very interesting life.
I think it does have more to do with personality. Because I can converse with someone and we don't have anything in common but it's fun to hear a different viewpoint. Or learn about new things.
