Haha, me too. xD
Sometimes I still forget or am accidentally drawing on the wrong layer and hate myself when I have to delete it again because it does not work with the other layers...

I usually only use one layer when I'm doing painting-styled doodles.
But for bigger pictures I just use a layer per color block? Once the base colors are filled in I shade pretty fast so even if I mess up its not any trouble to redo an area

Omg natsu I feel that pain.
I do base color layer, shadow layer, light layer and line layer. And one set of those for each thing, skin, hair, etc.

God, so simple.
I have one background layer (like white or transparent), then linelayers for each character and background. Sometimes even divided by parts (head, body, clothes, etc). Then I have color layers. One for the far away background, one for the closer background. One for each character, sometimes divided according to which colors I put above others.... Light layer. Shadow layer.
