YES I find it dumb you can't sell turnips tbh, trade, or gift them. I've never been on a site that doesn't let you sell the irl currency.

Yeah, I think it is cheaper to buy the ones you can't alch with conecakes or seashells. I usually make a lot of hatching items in one sitting when I alch them lol.
