I like them both, but I usually prefer anime that is original instead of an adaptation of something, they tend to be better.

However, I think people need to keep in mind that sometimes the anime is different for the following reasons:
1. The time it airs and the channel(s) it plays on
2. Time constrictions
3. Amount of manga material
4. Controversy/censorship issues
--and more.

For example, in the anime Shigofumi, there were certain things censored because of recent events in Japan. A gun had a BIG, and I mean BIG black censor placed on it.. kinda funny really. There was an adult holding kids in hostage in a school with this gun. Recently there had been school shootings so the channels chose to either censor it, or just not even air the episode.

There are also things changed to make it appeal to different audiences.. like Katekyo Hitman Reborn! had the bullets removed, to make it more child-friendly or something. Or they just didn't want to show a kid getting shot in the head constantly. :0

Even though I say these things, I do too sometimes dislike the changes made, which is why I will often prefer the manga. xD But plenty of times I will love it to pieces even if it sucks, like Air Gear. Horrible anime yet I've watched it at least 5 times. XDD

But in most cases, the original is better. Kuroshitsuji is much better as a manga, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is much better as an anime. -nod-

It really just depends on the series for me. Some I like both, some I only like the anime, some I only like the manga. ^^;

I'm agreeing with most people;
They are are best in there own way:
Manga teh art is usually better, but in anime it's just so nice to have it come to life, sometimes anime loose teh plot compared to teh manga and story lines aren't so deep, but I generally find there's something else that makes up to it, generally that they have a lush op/ed or somethin.' XD

Most times I prefer the manga over anime because with anime they tend to cut or change the story in order to fit it in a set number of episodes.

Whichever happens to be the original, though in most of the cases I've seen it turns out to be manga. I never really liked adaptations of a story; I feel that a lot is missing and you can't really observe some of the finer details that the original author wanted to portray when it's done by someone else. Many anime tend to cut out bits and pieces from the original story too, which is one of my pet peeves.

both have their perks
anime has the color and voices, etc.
manga you don't need electricity to read it
