Ha ha, I'm going to need to practice a spiel, that's for sure. Talking to strangers is hard, but a costume like that would mean a lot of talking to strangers, and by the time it was over I bet I wouldn't have nearly so much trouble....

I'd love to borrow it at some point, but there aren't that many conventions where I live/ that I could get to. I've never been to one...

I suppose if you were very brave you could randomly just do it. Wander around someplace crowded and see who all stopped you for quests....

Hm. I wonder.... I could talk to some of my smaller, locally owned business places, see if their owners are interested in helping. There'd be something at each one related to their business, not that required a purchase, of course. Like a different stamp for each one, and I wander around giving out a booklet and you get a quest to go to one of the places and get it stamped, and find me again, and get a new quest, and if you fill the booklet I give you a quest reward. If I did it every week during the tourist season I bet the business owners would chip in a little, maybe supply the quest rewards, and cover the cost of the costume.
Hm.
(I am kind of money-conscious right now; budget is tight. Doing it like that would mean not waiting for a convention, and costs would be covered, you see, so it's tempting.)
Problem is, then I do it where I live, so it's not really strangers, and people would get to KNOW me, and then I'd have to talk to them OUT of costume, too.

I don't think I'm up to that yet. >.<

The idea of doing it kind of as a promotion event for local businesses and having them help sounds really cool, actually. But I know what you mean, talking to strangers that are not completely strangers and that you might meet again is a whole new level of scary! Especially since doing it outside of a con will mean that not everyone will get what the costume means...
