Same as you it seems. Except in the other order. I live in Asia, my parents are in Europe. We got tickets around that price, mostly because we have to do directs because we only have ten days.
The tickets for the day after were like 6k for ONE person. It's crazy.

Ah I live in Canada! I can't believe 6k for one person... was it first class by chance?

Nope, good old economy. But it's on Friday, before Christmas break. Everyone who has children and who want to go back for Christmas is going to take that flight.

Dang! 6k is nuts! When I visited my husband's parents in Germany it was only 2.5k for the both of us, and we live in the US.

That's going to be a busy and noisy flight. Good luck.

800 is cheap. I haven't seen a flight under 1k, even with layovers it goes over.
I wouldn't mind but I don't have the time for that, considering I live in the middle of nowhere even a direct flight means two trains and a car afterwards, easily making it a 24 hours journey.

That was the price when we booked last month so yes. Most likely the flight was already nearly full.

Ticket prices going literally anywhere has gotten insane. My roommate is going to Canada in a couple of weeks and she's doing redeye flights to save some money but it's still...yeah.

Redeye or not makes absolutely no difference when your flight lasts 14 hours XD
Actually redeye might be better when you have a connection to take after.

But yeah, I used to be able to take domestic flights for cheap on some airlines and now the low costs ones are nearly the same price as the major carriers.
It's really crazy.

I am used to domestic US flights only costing $100-300, and to be honest I don't think I can find those often anymore.
