There is actually something called the Young Writer's Program which is meant to help encourage young people to write. I remember seeing several English teachers who had managed to get their classes to do either NaNoWriMo or Camp NaNo... though Camp Nano is more likely since it is far more flexible. Still, I could see teachers setting a certain number of words as homework. (one of my High School English teachers would have)

I was mostly thinking just that for so many people to want to be published writers, that's a lot of English teachers who inspired them.

I first heard about nano in college, my first year. Someone on a forum site mentioned it so I started. It would be cool to hear about it in high school too from a teacher, but I was aware of other writing programs and contests that I did then so I guess it was just different things that they were focused on. I don't remember what that scholastic contest was called though. I did it a couple years....long, long ago.

I'm currently working on a fanfic this nano. I'll do editing during camp nano, probably.

I am also working on a fanfiction for NaNo... though it probably won't go anywhere because the fandom is pretty small on the site I'd publish it on.
I actually had a write-in today which took up most of my day. It was fun but also a bit exhausting.

My ability to write is very sporadic cause I write scenes, not stories. I've never tried NaNo because it would just stress me out.
