I use both a notebook and pen AND a tablet (with a keyboard) to do my writing. Generally, creative writing I will write out longhand and maybe type later, but for school assignments and the like I tend to just type them up as I go, as it's faster to edit that way.

My handwriting is horrible, I'm all about keyboards. Besides, I type way faster than I write. And at least I can read it x)

I generally prefer a keyboard. When my fingers are firing correctly, I can get my thoughts out almost fast enough. Also, it is way easier to edit and revise, and that's crucial to me. :)

I also just like the feel of a mechanical keyboard.

Physical keyboard or writing with pen/pencil for me! With a keyboard I can type and edit quicker, but with writing I can doodle too...

It feels so strange to write on my phone or tablet, hehe. Almost as though it's not real or something! It distracts me, and I get distracted easily anyways so..!

If I'm writing stuff for a personal project, I always keep it in a Google Doc, but whenever I'm taking notes for school, I always put it in a notebook! I read that writing down your notes on paper helps with retention, and it helps to have a hard copy of my notes when I'm on the subway. You can't study if there's no signal!

That's an interesting question! It made me think, and some of these answers changed how I was thinking.

On the one hand, keyboard is much faster.

On the other hand, writing by hand lets me vary fonts and sizes in a very intuitive, non-intrusive fashion which can shape how I remember what I'm writing, or the aesthetic of the finished piece.

I actually do some paid calligraphy works, so I definitely have an attachment to physically writing things out.

But when I think back over my day.... the majority of what I write is on various computers. I have a couple of part-time jobs and two of them involve a lot of typing, and only one regularly has me writing things out by hand. Well, two, come to think of it. But the second has a lot more typing than longhand work so I'm not really sure that counts.

I tend to think of them very differently, that's for sure.

Keyboard all the way for me. It's way faster than writing by hand and also I can easily edit what I've written. Though I need a proper keyboard for that - the best one I've ever got is an ergonomic one. It was really strange at first, but I quickly got used to it. I generally type fast, but I was able to do it even quicker using this keyboard. Too bad they discontinued the series where I live...

Now I have laptop, but it's still good enough - the best way to write something for me. Tablets and smartphones are a big no for me - I need a big, physical keyboard to be able to type properly. Though there are times when I write something by hand - usually when I have to draw something or type some numerical formula. That's also the reason why I always carried my notebooks to classes, when I still had one - it'd be impossible to write down something else than just the plain text.

As a followup for my previous post; writing down my notes really does help with memorization, but ohhh god I would switch to keyboard writing in a heartbeat if there was a way I could find to make it work. I wrote that post early in the semester, and I can feel the start of carpal tunnel going on now. :C Im icing it and trying to rest it as much as possible, but I get the feeling it's going to be demolished by the time I'm out of school.

I started a journaling project over a year ago, and I've written nearly everyday since by hand. If I wrote creatively I'd probably do it on a keyboard just to be able to edit it easily. I think I'm more comfortable writing by hand though.
