Okay right now I'm reading "Full-Time Artist" (also sometimes translated as "All-Rounder Artist") and it's a lot of fun once I just let go of all my outrage over the blatant MC plagiarism going on. I'm actually finding a lot of new artists, songs, paintings, books, etc.
So that part is actually not bad.
But I'm currently stumped.
I'm at this section where the MC is using the song "Sugar" (an English song) by the band "Maroon 5" where they had this music video of the band showing up crashing a bunch of weddings and performing at them.
And the characters in the novel keep talking about a pun in the song, something to do with shaving a coconut (or maybe peeling a coconut, or cutting a coconut skin) and handing over a pear.
I have looked all over these lyrics.
I can't find this pun.
I can't figure out what they're talking about!
The last three chapters or so, this is being mentioned, and it's driving me batty!
What pun?!
Is it a bilingual-required pun? And I don't speak the other required language? But... what pun?!?!
If anyone wants to help me figure it out, here's a link to one of the sites with the novel, directly to a chapter where they mention it pretty close to the beginning of the chapter:
Full Time Artist, chapter 812
(Although I recommend caution; this translation goes so far as to refer to "Journey to the West" as "Western Tourism". Admittedly this cracks me up, but, it can get rough!)
And here's a link to a youtube of the music video being referenced (that the MC and his friends in the novel recreated in their alternative universe where it didn't exist before):
Marron 5 official music video posted by them to Youtube
Anyhow.
That's what I'm reading, and that's what has me super puzzled.
WHAT PUN?!
