while in general i do not agree with adoption limits i think in this case there is a difference- it's not the same as several hundred being in the shop with a chance to save up FP to get them. however, IF there is a limit, i believe it should only be on the amount of any one certain knuffel, not an overall daily or hourly or whatever limit. for example, if you just adopted a water gen 1, you cannot adopt another water gen 1 for a period of time (a day, a week, whatever) but you can adopt any other older knuffel that pop up. a person has every right to adopt however many of any knuffel they want, limited or not, but it is somewhat discourteous to adopt multiple of any one older knuffel in a case where the demand is going to far outstrip the supply.
