I always figured it was just a matter of when you last saw the person.
Have you seen them since "last year"? No? Then wish them a happy new year, even if it's mid-May. ("Wow I haven't seen you in ages, ja ja ja, happy new year for what's left of it!")
If you've already seen them and wished them a Happy New Year, then you don't repeat it.


Now I'm rethinking that...

You all always make me re-examine my assumptions, it's very good for personal growth :qsweat:

I think for Chinese ppl, we’d probably say happy new year til after the Chinese New Year lol.

Huh, there's a family get-together this year that happens to fall on Chinese New Year, if it's the 29th!
I should make moon cake for it. Definitely.
