It really does vary from place to place and culture to culture

I always figured it was just a matter of when you last saw the person.
Have you seen them since "last year"? No? Then wish them a happy new year, even if it's mid-May. ("Wow I haven't seen you in ages, ja ja ja, happy new year for what's left of it!")
If you've already seen them and wished them a Happy New Year, then you don't repeat it.


Now I'm rethinking that...

I think for Chinese ppl, we’d probably say happy new year til after the Chinese New Year lol.

So when is the Chinese New Year this year? (Wait, is it always the same time every year or is it a lunar-solar thing and moves?)

Is the 29th this year
Is flexible, based more moon than sun

I dunno, I haven’t checked the dates for Chinese New Year lol.

I always check because everything gets more packed because everyone is coming here on vacation ^^
