I miss being able to play in the snow and the cold not bothering me. =/
I ordered a pair of snow boots for this winter. My first brand new shoe/boot in YEARS!! Not a hand-me-down from friends or a pick up at a thrift store/family mission.
I have 2 pairs of sneakers set aside for later purchasing. A pair for working out in the apartment, never to go outside. And a pair for going outside. Just gotta order them next month or in Feb.
I can't really remember the last pair of shoes that I had that were actually bought brand new. But I figured, since it already snowed once here, and they're calling for snow again this week, I should get snow boots first.

I haven't had proper winter shoes in YEARS. I'm 33 and I feel like that's my fault, but my mom recently steopped up and bought me some low rise chuck taylors so that my tootsies aren't cold. Just a regular black pair. I have boots but they're not winter boots, but they ARE chucks lol. Winter here is just cold and wet.

We were too poor for shoes.. especially after I turned 18 and my welfare checks stopped.
But mom had a habit of spending everything on things that she thought would be 'worth' something some day, even before my welfare checks stopped.
I think my last pair of store bought shoes were blue and purple, No Boundaries. They were so comfy.. oxo I don't remember how old I was when they were bought. xD

I've lived under the poverty line for a long time, im not there now, but it was always really hard to make new shoes happen, and I didn't have super nice name brand shoes (Keds, ect.) but I make sure my daughter stays in really nice shoes. My mom and dad help me with that too, but most times she gets something like that I pay for it with heavy work in the house.

I think my foster parents helped pay for a lot of the clothes and shoes that I had when I was growing up. We all kept in contact with them even after my mom got me back from children services.
But you know.. growing up poor isn't so bad, yanno? Sure it's hard, but at least I know that money is valuable and very much needed in life.
Rent first, then Bills, then cats, then shove some aside for emergencies, then the rest is for me to spend on myself. >:D

When I was little, the state of my grandparent's home was so bad that when CPS was called they almost took me from my mom who was very young when she had me. She explained to them that she knew it wasn't a lot and that it wasn't great but it was better than me being at my fathers house because he was running an...
operation. CPS left her alone after that. There were a lot of situations that caused my mom to experience homing hardships. This doesn't have to do with anything but once we had a hurricane type instance with a cat one when I was little, but the house was so unstable that I watched the weather push the walls in on my grandparent's trailer home. We got in the car to go to my great grandma's and the car stopped working well so we parked it and ran the rest of the way. It wasn't very far but that memory is like imprinted on me forever.

@Outline- What a scary situation!!
I also grew up poor. We lived on my Dad's military disability pension. He finally got Social Security disability, too, so things did get better. I don't know how Mom and Dad raised 3 kids on so little, but we always got by.

I swear no matter where a hurricane hits on the east side of the states, ohio always has wild storms 2-3 days after it hits.. =w=
