I am completely convinced that most romance authors write with their tongue in cheek, and laugh at the conventions as much as I do. No one could take that stuff literally or seriously.

Or then there's something seriously missing in their own lives, or they're bored, so they write down their own daydreams. Lol. And of course, that type of thing seem to be rather popular too, so money can also be a huge reason. I'd imagine those people would probably laugh all the way writing their books...

....My daydreams have always been way different and more along the lines of creating worlds to escape to and have my own epic adventures. If there was ever some romance, it was more of a side story type of thing. I actually still remember pretty well my first "real" world where I used to go to. Kind of miss that place, because it was really fairytaleish.

EDIT: (posting this one again, before it gets lost while it hasn't yet been added to the first post)

For me it varies.

Sometimes, when I am roaming around I like to make up stories (like the sewer cap which always gurgles when you walk by, I pretend has a Naiad trapped inside, who has gone insane and become a sort of cousin of a rusalka. Or the apple tree twelve houses down which has the fattest trunk I have EVER seen on a fruiting apple tree, but is a dwarf one so it is only about the size of a one story house? I pretend that is an ancient fairy lord who take on apple tree form when humans walk by).

Sometimes I like to lie in bed and come up with stories entirely unrelated to our world; usually these do not have words and are in semi-fractal patterns and play out in melody lines as much as plot lines.

Sometimes I like to sit down at a table and work out actual plots of character-driven stories, and then lose myself in the research of how things around the characters would work.

I read "drunk" instead of "trunk". Lol. Take that and read it again, lol. I'm still laughing so hard, but then I just woke.

I'm happy there's a guide-cum-chat for these items. Can't believe I've only just found this thread though.

I'm sorry you're suffering, Deja. I hope it gets better quickly.
