I would have expected that to be a comedy, from the title! That kind of a pun is usually linked to a more humorous tone... But I guess if it's making you almost cry then it must be well written enough to suck you into the writing. I hope it has a happier ending, though!

it is a comedy, or rather a satire, and it's so exceptional I can't name an emotion it didn't make me experience

Well, guess I have a new book for my TBR pile then!

edit: Okay, did some searching. Should I read "orconomics" first? (Either way, it's going to take a while to get hold of a copy since my library doesn't have it and those books aren't cheap)

Yes, you should read Orconomics first, but I can assure you, it's as good. According to my standards, of course. In fact, I was debating if it's not better than the second part but I still have 2 chapters to see that. Never judge a book before finishing it XD

But even if it's a bit weaker than the first book, those are still my top books, they are just so... true. There are real interactions, real motivations, real world, real villains, real problems, real friendships. And it's a very rich story, not just a progress bar from point A to point B. And many things that seem insignificant in Orconomics play a huge role in Son of a Liche, so that makes parts of the story interwoven even stronger. I couldn't have guessed they'd be so prominent, yet while reading the second book I kept wondering why I didn't pay more attention to them :mclaugh:

But of course that's just what I think. I'm really curious about your opinion if you end up reading them. The author had big discounts on Orconomics when Son of a Liche was in pre-order state. He'll likely do it again once the last book in the trilogy is ready.

discounts on the physical copy or electronic? I'll keep an eye out for that, but meanwhile I'll put in a purchase request at my library. Maybe they'll be willing to buy it for me....
