School isn't really about the knowledge itself, and more about building those important skillsets for the future.
I can't remember much about the novels I studied in highschool, but I know how to do critical analysis, so that's something that sticks. And that's something I'm trying to teach my students too.
Obviously some gets it more than others, but it's always a fulfilling feeling at the end of the year when you see how much progress (most of) the students had made! :D

When my mom was homeschooling us, her top three rules were:
#1 Learn how to read.
#2 Understand what you read.
#3 Understand how to research.
'Cause if we could do that, we could learn/do anything.

My mom used to make these connect the dot exercises when learning Chinese le English letters. Lol
