Here it is a common rule that you paint your walls yousrelf, but if you move out of to the apartment you have to reset the walls to the condition they were in. This can be good or bad in some cases. Like with our current apartment: When we moved in the walls were a mess. Dirty and partly scrateched because the previous renter had a bunny that tore off pieces. So we painted most of the walls and put up new wallpapers on some. But, as expected, our cats scrated the wallpapers a lot - But now I don't have to fix that, because it's pretty much the condition we got the apartment in (might be that the landlords will still expect us to fix it, they have been very difficult, but I have no intention to do that.)

Some land lords can be very petty
I get sorting out damages / tidying up, but if you moved into it in that condition get stuffed
Hope you have pictures ...

Painting mountains on your walls sounds like a fantastic idea, Firn!

I've always loved mural walls! No way they're only for kids!
I hope that, by the time I own a house or am renting an apartment long-term, I will be good enough at art that I can paint my own mural.

A girl can dream, right?

My bedroom walls are slate gray and I hate them. lol. My landlord (hub's aunt) was talking with our granny and granny complimented her on the color. I'm like, who wants such a drab color in their bedroom? Super depressing. I'd rather a cream color, or even white. Jeez.
Maaan! I would loooove mural on a wall! I'd super be into that. If I ever owned my own house I would totally commission an artist to do a mural for me.

Even with owning our house, we're so scared of decreasing the value that we keep everything in pristine condition XD I think we take more care here than we ever did of a rented place.
Although maybe in a few years' time we'll find the house that we want to raise children in, and that house can go to hell, because no way we'll be able to keep it clean with kids living in it anyway XD

Me!
That's actually the color I bought for our new apartment.

I am so sorry to hear that! I hope you find a place soon.
It always makes me so sad when families act like that and parents are so cold towards their children. I can't understand it. My family certainly is not the easiest and my mother has a lot of issues, but at least I know she would never let me down like this.
But I know how that can be - Starkad and his mother are currently not on speaking terms. She tries to call all the time, but he has not answered any of her calls since December.

My mother's parents were pretty awful to her. She didn't speak to her mother for over a decade and didn't attend her funeral either. She made up with her father a few years ago as he was kind of the one who stood by and let it happen, rather than the truly awful person. He died last week but it's a very odd feeling; from when I was around 8 years old he was no longer my grandfather, then only when I was 21 or so he was suddenly around again, and I only saw him a handful of times since I didn't live with my parents anymore. My mum's upset but I can't seem to connect with any kind of emotion about it, rather it's just a thing that happened.
