I can't bear it for that reason. I need subtitles AND lip-reading to understand stuff most of the time anyway. At least if it's in a foreign language I know I can concentrate on the subtitles and look away from the lips completely. If what I hear isn't what I see I can't figure it out.

Also most of time original laughish it was made with it sounds way better so you love the subs to go with it.
Fruit baskets is a classic example of that English version is dreadful!

Most Japanese into english dubs for anime are crap. Though that said the voice actress for fruits basket who plays Tohru is quite famous. It's the translations that makes it crap most of the time.
As for the rain, I think I'd enjoy watching the sub of it. Not sure I enjoyed trying to watch the sub of dark, while the dub voice's not lining up did annoy me I preferred it.

She surposed to be sweet caring Japanese girl with a positive calm out look of life.

I grew up with Sailor Moon dub, it was hilarious finding out what the storylines were actually supposed to be about when I realised the subs existed XD

The series itself is full of so much filler.
Like it's good in a way, but I can't watch 90's SM anime.
Now I just stick to the manga and crystal

It's like most things, I think. I remember when I thought Chobits was freaking amazing. Then I read more grown-up manga with better art. Then I saw even better art and storylines than that, and so on. Now I look back and Chobits looks pretty simple and dumb.

I think it's because English dubs don't seem to have the same energy and emotion.
It's hard for me to explain, but it lacks so much power compared to the original.
The old Sailor Moon dialog can be cringe now.
But I did love the voices the characters had.
I just wished they didn't change the anime to make it more "appealing" for the American audience.

The changing nit to make it more appealing for US audience is one main reason why I don't like it much now even though it is the original first season that got me liking the show
