Okay then, I'd probably cry again :D
But maybe I should watch it again nonetheless to appreciate the happy parts as well :)
But I see your point about putting adult themes into kid's movies. That can be a great thing, I believe kids can actually deal with more than is often assumend if they get to see it in a happy and safe environment when they're not too young. And it makes for interesting movies that you can still enjoy as an adult, where a lot of tamer kids movies just don't resonate with you anymore.

as far as I can tell Netflix has the land before time, but none of the sequels sadly. Same for American tail :'c
marketing adult themes to children in a comprehensive way is difficult but a wonderful deviation from the nrom of happy silly kid movies. Nothing wrong with the latter but while the actual politics of scenes fly over kids' heads as they watch the core message still gets through and its amazing how some creators really take that chance to give such a good message to kids while they're still young.
Some things you definitely don't know the real meaning of till you're older but that makes it all the more powerful as you rewatch it. In American Tail for example it handles the immigration from Russia and other countries to America. It has a scene where the main character's family pass through immigration, and find their Russian names changed to more American ones. As a kid you don't get it and it slips past you but as an adult the meaning of it really hits you.

Oh wow, yeah, you'd never notice such details as a kid. I guess they're more in there for the parents watching with the kids, or for when you rewatch it as an adult. Sometimes kid's movies also have jokes clearly targeted at the adults watching with the kids that fly right over their heads, I like that, too. Gives you things to discover about your favourites as you grow older :) And makes it less annoying to the parents having to watch movies with their kids, some kids movies can be really boring.

I love those word jokes you only get when you're older c':
the 'mature' jokes not so much, they're unnecessary imo but jokes centering around things in the background of in the way something is said etc are super fun to discover in a rewatch. with more serious meanings and messages it becomes better/nicer for the adults to watch because the movie gets less shallow and samesy with all the others.
I feel so many of kids movies have the exact same plot/journey just with different characters and if it doesn't get dressed up a bit I can definitely see how it can get boring for parents haha
esp if kids want to see the exact same movie again and again!

Oh yes, kids have a tendency to rewatch things a lot :D
But I guess even with good movies that can probably get too much for the parents :D

I babysat two kids (boy and girl) in my old neighbourhood about 5-6 times in total. Every night ended with the same movie c':

I was obsessed with Land Before Time when I was a kid :D My parents could basically put that movie on and then just leave me alone because they knew I wouldn't move an inch until it was done.

I was a bit of an inquisitive kid so most other stuff, I would wander away if I'd already seen it before and knew what happened. One time my parents thought they'd lost me when I was really little. They were just about panicking when they found me inside one of the kitchen cupboards, sitting there with a whole packet of custard cream biscuits which I had almost completely finished off :D I found the jackpot haha
