That does sound like a lot ;)
But hey, as long as it'S not a bother to you and you can afford buying them, that's fine :)

I'm curious what kind of job I'll end up with clothing-wise... I hope it'll be something where I just sit in my office with no contact to any kind of relevant people and can wear what I want :D But we'll see.

Mash of styles sounds good to me, but I guess that's no surprise now ;)

Do you often wear your lolita in day to day life or do you reserve most of it for special occasions? I mean, you already said you sometimes wear the dresses casually without a full outfit, but the full outifts?

I'm also curious how you found Lolita fashion in the first place. Did you find something in your style and get it and then notice a label or something, and look it up? Did you see it somewhere as an image and go "That! I like that!"? Did someone introduce it to you thinking it would be a good fit?

*reading all the clothing talk avidly* haha

I'm selling a ton of my old clothes at the moment. I realised that many of them haven't even been worn or just worn a few times. I always get gifts that aren't really clothes I would wear lol. And I'm a hoarder so some of this stuff is from when I was like 16. But I have finally developed a good system where I bought a couple new jumpers yesterday, and then turned around and took the same amount of old jumpers from my wardrobe to put in the sale pile :D

I quite like gothic lolita styles. And pastel goth, which can incorporate some lolita elements. I just don't have the budget to really add a ton of that stuff to my wardrobe from scratch. I keep getting one piece here and there and one day eventually I'll have that overall style, combined with my more serious clothes for working and looking professional.

Dang, the sign up of lace market seems to be broken. I was going to bid on an auction for a pretty nice looking and super cheap corset (this one), but whenever I fill in the sign up form and send it, it just gives me a weird "the user or listing you were looking for could not be found" error. Strange...
But the auction is ending in an hour or so, so I guess that saves me money.

I have the same system as Jacobgrey for myself, for every thing I buy I have to consider selling/giving something away. I've been doing that for a while now out of necessity haha

Right now I have an apron and a dress coming my way, but I've sold a pair of shoes (that were half a size too small for me and yet I somehow held onto for ages) and no less than 3 blouses. I currently have one more pair of shoes, 1 blouse, 3 wigs, 2 dresses and a bag up for sale and that's just lolita related c':

I hope you can get a job with a lot of freedom concerning clothing, its nice to express yourself! I work in a supermarket so just in terms of the kind of work I do I really can't walk around in my fancier clothing haha

I'm wearing one of my lolita dresses right now :P

I think if you're just used to it that putting on a petticoat and a frilly dress doesn't feel like more effort than putting together a 'normal' outfit? I can get dressed in a casual coord in the same amount of time it takes me to put on another regular outfit. Ofc for a full coord with wig and 50 accessories its different but that part I actually LOVE haha so that's no chore either for me!

Putting a number on it I'd say that on my free days there's a 50% chance I'll wear lolita going somewhere, and if I'm just going to be at home all day I prefer onesies or oversized hoodies and the like. Meeting up with friends is a 75% of lolita, with certain friends its 100% haha and whether I go full outfit or not depends on my mood on the spot. I will always have some rings/bracelets etc and a petti but if I feel like going ott (over the top, a term used by lolitas to really mean the full on coords) then the wig comes on and the accessories and petticoats multiply etc

I found lolita through general alt fashion blogs on livejournal back in 2006, but I didn't really get into it till 2010 when I really got that 'I want to wear that too!' mood. When I was 17-18 I had already gotten inspired by Japanese fashions but more in the tamer sense of looking at street snaps and general Harajuku pictures of girls wearing bold colours and over the top punk styles etc. I'd just get generally inspired, pick out a few bits and bobs of things I liked about a certain look and try to emulate it with my own wardrobe. At 19-20 I went fuck it and decided that I was damn well getting those poofy princess dresses with all them bows and I was going to wear them and look good in them whether anyone liked it or not, et voila c':

I've been on Lacemarket for years so I can't even remember how the sign up went, pity you missed that listing though :c

That seems like a good system.
My boyfriend caught me looking at skirts earlier and was like "you do know that our closet is full, right?" :D We talked about looking at and maybe selling some of the jackets/coats that we never wear... Just have to figure out where to sell clothing. Maybe ebay? Maybe something more local?
But he had to admit that that one skirt was super pretty :P (which actually surprised me a little, since I thought he might find it a little too decorated... But he didn't even seem particularly shocked when I told him that that would mean I'd need another petticoat and somehow fit that into the wardrobe as well...)
It's this skirt (in green) :mclove: , in case you're curious ;)

I tried submitting a bug report about the sign up, but it looked like my input had been broken there as well (in the confirmation part most fields just showed {{unknownpiping}} - which I guess is probably the problem of the sign up form itself as well. I tried googling for it to figure out why it was happening, but couldn't really find anything). I submitted it anyway, hoping they would still be able to figure out that the problem existed from it :D
But I tried in 3 different browers, so there's not really anything else I can do for now... I'll try again in a few days maybe, see if it was a temporary problem.
But yeah, that listing was really nice, practically a steal at that price point.
Oh well, there will be other opportunities in the future and I was a bit unsure if the corset might be too long for me anyway, so maybe the issue saved me from buying something and finding it not fitting.

Edit: Wooot, just got a big sale in the market, so if I calculated correctly that the total is 60k, then I'm ready to clear the rest of my hold now:
Elegant Furry Wig
Claret 15k
Cream 20k
Lion Pin 15k
Majolica Wig Red decorated 10k

That is a pretty skirt ;P
get it

I use Lacemarket for all my lolita stuff, but I've got so much other things like shoes and old toys that I'm going to throw on a local site first and then on ebay.
I do hope Lacemarket gets its act together soon for you!

Sending trade!

It is, right? :mclove: I want it... I've kind of wanted a nice dark green skirt for a while now.
How long do you think should the petticoat ideally be? I'm pretty certain that the one I have is way too long, so I'd need to get one definitely. But then the question is how to choose one ^^
Would you try to go for about the same length as the skirt or considerably (how much before it looks odd in the shape) shorter?

Yeah, I hope so, too! There's a lot of pretty things on there.

Sent back! Freedom!!! :D Master has given dobby socksclothes, dobby is a free elf now ;)
Thank you again for trading and holding :)

A petti should be about 2-3cm shorter, basically falling around the edge of the skirt where the lace starts if it has lace, and otherwise about 2cm from just where the skirt ends, otherwise any movement you make gives you a peeking petti :P

And definitely not over 5cm shorter cause then the bottom of the skirt will alraedy have that 'falling straight down' look and it'll look silly haha

lolita petticoats usually come in standard sizes that are meant to fit a wide variety of skirts as long as they're lolita. Its more the matter of knowing what shape your skirt has to get a matching petti. There's A line and cupcake, the latter being more round and bellshaped whereas the A-line lets the skirt fall in a straighter diagonal curve from your body. I'd suggest a cupcake/bell petti for that skirt c:
