From the prices shown in the video, the price for the lenses isn't cheaper than in Germany. At least not from what remember, but it has already been like 7 or 8 years since I got my last glasses, so I am not up to date on this.

You can only get a prescription in Germany, if you go to an actual doctor, an optician will not give you a prescription, since they only offer you the service for free when you buy glasses from them. But here the optician doesn't do any tests beside the reading test to determine your vision. I don't think even eye doctors do any kind of tests beside this, unless you have some kind of problem you need to have looked into? I really don't remember for sure. It has been so long since I have been to any kind of doctor expect for the dentist. I usually try to avoid doctors, because miraculously I always end up having an issue/needing something that my already expensive health insurance is not covering.

Well, it's not important, as said, I'll just use my old frames again. I don't really have any problem with them, just don't like beeing without glasses in the meantime and here it can easily take over a week to get new glasses done.

Wow, you guys, the prices you pay are scary x.x My glasses seem expensive to me, but it's nothing compared to yours. I mean I took the simplest frames I could that would fit me and the lences with all the convenient stuff on lences. True, that my vision defect isn't too big (it's actually pretty minor if you ask me) and Ash would pay probably twice as much for his glasses as I did for mine but geez, it's still not $500 x.x These things are way too expensive in your countries! :qno:

Oh, wow! It's so different in Germany O_O I have never been to a doctor for an eyeglass prescription. You mean a general practitioner right? I don't think my GP even has the tools to carry this out. I don't think I've ever paid for an eye test but we have health insurance.

I'm surprised your prescription hasn't changed drastically over the past few years. I get new lenses every 2 years. Clearly you're getting the short end of miracles.

I think you can get cheaper services here but my eyes are really messed up so I require more TLC than other patients. Plus, my mum always picks the premium frames. I only wanted frames that were around 100-200, she picks the 400$ guccis =_= and said, 'they look best on you, we're buying those.' I was like 'OK, if you're paying.' We have health insurance we bumps the price down by $280 at least.

memoriam: Nha, I also would not pay $500 for glasses (anymore). I am not willing to pay more than $100 or maybe $150 (if I liked them a lot) for frames and the glasses used to be something around $50 if you didn't take any extras. So maybe $200 in total for new glasses. But I only wear my glasses at home, if I actually used them outside, I would probably pay for some extras like anti-reflective coating, etc.
That's still a lot in my opinion, but still less than $500.
But it wasn't always like this for me, because before my eye surgery I needed to have really really thick glasses and they would often not even fit into every frame. I even once went to an optician who flat out refused to sell me glasses if I did not take the special option for making them extra thin, with the explanation that "it looked stupid" otherwise. Yes, it did, but making them extra thin cost around $1000 (! no kidding), so that usually wasn't an option for me, regardless of whether I wanted it or not, especially since my eye sight changes so often that I could hardly afford to pay over $1000 for glasses each year. I think I only had this option once actually.

Poshi: Oh, my prescription has changed! I just never really found the time/nerves to get new glasses. I am traumatized from buying glasses in my youth, would constantly burst out in tears during the process. I hate glasses with a passion and I hate buying new ones even more, so have been avoiding it, even though my prescription is probably wrong by over a degree now. Probably even more. I really don't see all that well anymore... :qoops:

@Poshi: What do you mean, you don't need a doctor's prescription for glasses before you go to the optician? :qshock: how does your health insurance work then? XD
I mean we get the prescription for the first glasses, then bf goes to the optician after some time to get new lenses after his eyesight has become worse. So no doctor needed anymore. But then I don't think you can get a refund from the insurance. I think you can get the refund form your employer (I did), but I'd have to read some more about how it works here ;>_>

Lolol, yeah, bf really like the frameless ones by Porsche I believe. and he's just all "damn it, I'm not crazy, not gonna spend 300$ on frames :qstr: " so he's searching for cheaper alternatives on the web somewhere. He just looks constantly angry in his current frames because of his thick eyebrows XD

@Firn: Oh god, 1k$ xAx *dies* I think I only paid something like 100$ for my glasses, and I got a refund for the basic frames and basic lenses from my employer. And I got all the extras for lences, with anti-reflect and easy cleaning and all that, I try to wear my glasses all the time :qhehe: But i think the bigger the vision defect you have, the more your basic lences cost. Not entirely sure but I think so.
I'm full of admiration for the eye surgery tho... scary ;~;
Why do you hate glasses so much? (other than being traumatized)

Ouch, $1000. You're not the only one who wouldn't pay that much. I imagine they'd also be really heavy and impractical. Did you get lasik eye surgery? I feel like you told us many years ago but I've long forgotten the details.

I hate glasses too but such is life. I can't see anything without them and I depend on them to stop my eyesight from spiralling into the pits of hell. I would give you any of mine if I could. This sounds really stupid but in my drawer currently I have 6 pairs of glasses ... not including the ones on my face. :mcsweat:

@mem
I am now confused D: You just walk into any old optom and say 'hi, I need an eye check,' and they do it. Simple. You get taken into the dark room where you'll see an optometrist and they'll rig you up to their contraptions and you come out with a piece of paper and some numbers. Then the nice front desk lady/man will help you pick frames.

You require a referral to see other specialists like an opthalmologist (for eye disease) or a dermatologist and if you don't have a referral you can't claim medicare but not an optometrist.

WE DON'T GET REFUNDS FROM EMPLOYERS O:!

Yes, you can get your vision checked for free, but only if you buy glasses from them. So it's pretty convenient. You notice you don't see as clearly, then you go to the optician, he checks you up and the dark room and stuff and voi la, you can pick your frames ^^

I guess I got a refund, because I only found out about my vision defect because of the medical tests that are required, and my job is 8 hours work on a PC, so maybe that's why. But I think it's the only time you can get a refund. Or maybe if your eyesight got worse due to the working environment, but I guess you'd need some proof and a very nice boss for that :qhehe:

Oh, you pay $80 for the dilation? O_O I never payed extra. Oh right, should I also mention that my university does free eye tests. They take forever though and I hate going there so I just visit my usual optom.

They are mem. Moi mentioned the cheshire eyes but idk what others have been redrawn.

edit: were the drago clips redrawn? I don't remember there being jade green in my ecru clips but then again I have bad memory.
