It's winter coming here, so I'm not hot, but stressed, yep, hella stressed. And tired.
So why are you stressed?

There's a fire not far from town and it was getting pretty close for a bit. I think it's still not out so shall see how it will be next few days. Also I go away next tuesday so I hope it's out by then.

Oh my!

I hope you're safe! Do they usually let the fire just consume whatever it wants and wait till it comes out on its own? Shouldn't they extinguish it?

There are lots of firefighters fighting it.
If they were to just let it burn, which it's in a national forest, it would then probably burn the town.
They're doing the best they can but it's really hard with the weather conditions we are having this week. We are having a heatwave, with bad strong hot winds that keep trying to make the fire come closer to town.
There's lots of smoke. I won't be opening the doors today or leaving the flat due to smoke. I'm asthmatic, been using my ventolin each night.
We have I think 130 firies from another state that are trying to help too.
This is what NSW Rural Fire fb page posted this morning 2 hours ago
At 10am there are 97 bush and grass fires burning in NSW. Of these, 50 are not contained and three fires are at the Watch and Act alert status. Around 1,700 personnel are in the field.
There are extremely hot conditions over the firegrounds today and there are strong winds with a gusty southerly change expected toward the end of the day.
Ours is still being controlled.

Wow, that's massive!

I have no idea about firefighting, that's why I ask so many stupid questions xD You hear about fires being extinguished for long hours but I don't think I've heard of one going on for days, so my brain doesn't wrap around the idea

It's probably because I don't live in an area with such drastic weather conditions. We do get an occasional fire during the summer, but not like that.

Climate change is making it a longer bush fire season.
Normally in the past we could backburn in winter, well end of winter before the heat and all came up. Now.. we could barely do that. We started Spring with bushfires..it's now summer and it's just horrible.
I still don't know a lot about firefighting myself but sometimes yeah we have had fires go for days. That's why we have Ash Wednesday and Black Friday, etc (I can't remember if there's more remarkable fires in our history).
This one that's near me was caused by lightning strike about 2 nearly 3 weeks ago.
Others in Australia were caused by similar but a lot were actually arson. Just the climate makes it harder to fight them and also our government gave budget cuts to the fire services and that's another whole thing itself.

I'm speechless

3 weeks of fire is unimaginable for me. The government tho...
