It doesn't help that the grocery store in my local town up charges about ~$4 for most things. The last time I went I needed to pick up something I forgot for something I was making and it costs me 3x what it normally should for the smaller size. Like who is going to pay $6 for a small box of cereal???? I did because the dollar store that's just outside my town didn't have the cereal I needed. The only places you can shop in my town is literally two gas stations, the dollar store, and the bare shelved grocery store.
I mean, that's what my family was supposed to be for, but they aren't helping. I just know once I finally kick my butt hard enough I will stick to it, but the people around me (aka my family) need to get on track to. I'm going to have to start kicking them on it.

Wow, 3 times the normal prices is quite a lot!
The most expensive store we have around might actually be the one on university ground. By car or bus you need between 10 to 15 minutes to reach the city and get to cheaper stores. So if you quickly need something and cannot leave university to get it, you NEED to get it there :(
But still, they only have double the price at some things.
But 3 times is like really exploiting that there are no other stores!!
I wish you all the luck and kick really hard :D

Oops, think I got distracted.
There are TOO MANY places for groceries here, and my mom has to shop at three or four different stores because there isn’t one that carries everything we need. I guess comparatively, it’s a good problem to have.
Just 3x the price, yikes.
How’s your diet been the past couple days? I realize it’s more a long-term thing, but sticking to it short-term is part of that.

Yeah, I mean, if you really need something without leaving town, yes go there, but there is a bigger grocery store (same one, different owners) around a ten minute drive from my town (which is actually the town I live in, it's so convenient) and a lot of people pass it on there way home from work so why not just stop there. But sometimes I like to go out of my way to a higher end grocery store because there produce is just so dang nice even if I have to pay a little bit more.
But that store in my hometown, I feel so bad for the new owners too. I have no clue how they are breaking even. Whenever I pass it (which is really rare nowadays) I never see anyone there.
Going to multiple grocery stores reminds me of my old coworker because she would go to 3 different stores each time she went grocery shopping. she would find the cheapest prices for what she needed and then go buy them at the store that's the cheapest.
And diet wise, restarted yesterday and so far so good. Took the dogs for a walk yesterday since walking them is really my favorite form of exercise. But now it's raining and it's going to rain for the rest of the week. But everyone is back on track. It's like a switch finally flipped and we are all like "let's do this." SO this time I'm going full in. I need to find more meals to make though. Food is the toughest part because it's so easy to want to make something premade, but those aren't always good for you even if they are labeled healthy.

I eat premade stuff about half the time because realistically, there’s no other option. It’s not healthy, but neither is starving. The alternative seems to be a feeding tube, and no.
Yay walking dogs! It’s actually storming here now, has been for at least an hour.
I’m glad everyone’s back on track! Now for the hard part...
Good luck with your diet!

No, I understand that. Eating good is so expensive. Half the time I just want to throw something quick in the microwave. And it's cheaper. You can buy microwave meals for like $1.00 in most stores, and surprisingly most of them are good. I have actually started buying more frozen produce because it's way cheaper. Like you can beat a bag of $.50 veggies. Oh. And brussel sprouts, even though they aren't as good frozen, are so much cheaper frozen.
Yeah, we got rained on Monday if I didn't say that. It wasn't too bad, but still got soaked. And you could tell my boy was not happy (even though he will play outside in the rain for hours if I let him)
Yeah and usually I'm the one most strict so I will make sure they stick to it this time because I am serious finally.

I feel like there’s a ton of food elitism. It’s great eating fresh/organic/whatever all of the time if you can afford it and are able to, but, realistically, so many people can’t.
Good luck, if I haven’t said so already! I think it’s great that you’re getting serious with it. I’m making lifestyle changes, though small ones, and it feels nice.

I totally understand you both. I would love to eat more fresh food but then I see the prices and we do not earn enough to eat fresh on a regular basis and it makes me really sad :(
You can do the diet thing!! We believe in you

Honestly, that's really the only option for this diet because you can eat as much chicken breast or 99% fat free ground turkey breast. So it's mostly chicken (and I have to get creative because I can only eat so much baked chicken) because that ground turkey breast is nearly $6 a pund. Like holy cow. I get ground beef, but like I have to eat not a lot during the day just so I can have that. Like I can afford it to a point, like I'll stock up when I see it on sale, but now I rather go the frozen route with most things because generally, it's cheaper.
Last night though, I made some diet soda cake and it turned out pretty good. I mean, still not the healthiest treat, but if I eat it slowly, it'll be fine. It might be a good once in a while treat. I crave savory more than sweet.

It's been over a month since last reply so bumping. Anyone want to chat? (Been waiting to do this but candy caravan is a good excuse to do it earlier)
We can talk about anything, life, books, dogs, etc.
