Well one other was; Earth is the only planet not named for a mythological god or goddess.
And an other was; The Earth is associated with the Goddess Terra Mater (Gaea in Greek Mythology) who was the first Goddess on Earth and the mother of Uranus.
And a third; In SF books the name for Earth is usually Terra to stay in line with the other Latin names in our Solar system. Sol and Luna are then used for the Sun and the Moon.
I liked those three as they form a small story when read in order. :}

Exactly. Lo my surprise when I found out that using the word Terra for the Planet was only introduced to the main crowd through SF books. Before those became for the general public it was only used in Scientific papers as those used Latin. :}

Ah, you learn something everyday haha!
Whenever I make up names for characters and settings, I also try to base it off other/older languages... because man, connections.

Talking about names of Earth and other planets I can pop in and say that no one really knows who named Earth as Earth!
It really is a mystery!

And yeah. Naming things is a mystery itself. I mean like animals: sheep, cow, pig etc, from where did it come that naming? XD water? Air? where did it come from? Myeah. I am wondering about it from time to time.

Fun fact of the day;
The oldest words in English: I, who, we, thou, two, three, five. They are to be believed to already exist in the Stone age. 20.000 years ago. :}
