No, please don't put lootboxes into KofK :(
They are a way to make people spend more than they're really happy with and feel unsatisfied in the end.
It's a predatory practice and I don't think it has a positive influence on users in the long run. I can imagine people leaving because they feel like they've been tempted to gamble and disappointed too often. I would hate to see that happen.

I know what you mean and appreciate your thoughts.
Maybe there are some that like to gamble.
At least I mean you can, but you dont have to.

It would be optional. (for the ones that doesnt know what to do with their fcs)
Just as a thought.

I know what you mean and I hope I didn't word my response too strongly. It's just that I've seen a lot of frustration caused on other sites by gambling mechanics, so I'm a bit sensitive to the issue.

Sure it would be optional, but if it feels that way heavily depends on what kind of items would be obtainable from them.
If gambling gives you a chance at some rare old item you love but had no hope of ever getting before, how many people would do it even though they dislike gambling?
How many of those would be disappointed and frustrated because the chance to get that one item they really wanted was incredibly small, so they got a bunch of other things they don't really care for?
How many of those would feel like they wasted their FCs and be hesitant to buy more afterwards?

Just some thoughts...

I appreciate your concern - I admit, personally I am not fond of things like surprise boxes and gatchas. Though for me that's easily solved: I simply don't use them and I think that that's what people who are not fond of the idea should do: I ignore this feature. (If it ever comes).
But, you know, we already kind of having something like this with the Wild Knuffel item raffle and this wasn't even our own idea, but something that was requested by users and I can't recall ever hearing any negative feedback about it.

I am curious to hear everyone elses opinion on this though! Maybe someone has some great ideas? The only thing that comes into my mind to keep people from "spending more than they really want" would be to make a max limit you can spend on the feature per day or week.

(By the way, since people are talking about FCs: My idea for this feature was actually to use Food, not fairy Coins, since it was meant as an anti-inflation feature. )

I hope I didnt started something turning into bad.
I just wanted to intend the feeling as a kid when you buy an surprise bag.
Children just love the effect of being surprised and get something they dont know.
( at least I think so)

As a child I loved surprise bags.^^

Ah, don't worry, I mentioned that we planned to add a gatcha feature before you, so I started this myself. (And I didn't even comment on the raffle box idea, as I have no opinion about this.)

Well I think there is a difference between what was suggested, and lootboxes like EA *hiss* and so on.

Right now, you pay a set amount for a :fc:
If you buy enough :fc: you get an item.
If you buy more :fc: you get more items.

The guaranteed :fc: and items would remain. So you are not gambling real life currency and getting crap, you're getting the same thing everyone else is getting, with a possible bonus. I'm sure there's some way for it to be coded so that the bonus items are above a certain value on the market, now that we have that price history tracking in place. And of course, the items would not be shop or event items, they would be past :fc: items.
I think if you didn't use a base value for the random item, item rarities would have to be assigned to items. Common like tops and bgs, rare like eyes and hairs, and epic like old gift of the queen or whole sets or something... dunno.

I'd be quite careful with lootboxes in exchange for fc or donations, since the lootbox-gambling discussion is very recent and the legal situation is kinda unclear and might change in the near future.

Lootboxes for food points should be completely fine, though it would be more of an anti-inflation measure than a pro-donation one.

There are already a lot of perks to donating, and they even increased recently...Depending on how much that affected the donations, hoping to increase donations with further additional gifts might be wishfull thinking :/

On lootboxes in general, whether in exchange for fc or fp, they might be a fun idea?
There could be event specific lootboxes, like a spring event lootbox, giving out random old spring event items, spring event currency (if there is any that year), or things like food points, frosted donuts or daycare coupons if you lucked out and there was no rare old item in the lootbox.
Or the queen's lootbag, costing a fortune, giving out the really old rare items if you're lucky, or a fc or a recent or current gotw if you're unlucky.
I think it might be prudent to limit the number of such lootboxes that a user could buy. Like, only 3 queen's lootboxes per user per year or something, so that old items don't completely loose their worth in a week because a crazy rich user buys 50 lootboxes. Though those kinds of limits might encourage the creation of mule accounts ... I dunno, just throwing out some thoughts.

Another random idea I just had to get some older and popular items back into circulation while taking out food: a wuffel run black market? Kinda like the candy caravan, with old items that change every time the black market is around, and because it's all illegal buisness, the prices are high. And a limit of only being able to buy one of each item that's being offered so noone can stock up on 20 winged halos or something. Some items could also be sold for fc rather than fp, if they are very rare.

In any case, I would love it if any future "get rare discontinued items through other means than buying from another user"-options included fairy items :qoops: They're technically all still available, but they're so rare that I think they kinda go in the same category nonetheless

As far as anti-inflation I think the rare knuffel auction was a great start to that, so thank you Firn.

Okay, I think I might throw in my 2 cents into this discussion... :mcblush:

If the "lootboxes" would be for :fc: , that may increase the market price of :fc: even more, that one concern of mine, although it's minor, really. But otherwise, they might encourage people to donate more. But frankly, it's a stretch if you ask me. But I probably know shit :P
If they were for :food: , it might support the inflation, but it may also make the rare items more common, therefore their price might decrease (I'm not an economist, so maybe that's a lie, lol). Or it would be a food dump and prices would either stay in the same spot or even increase. Idk... It's hard to predict (how do the economists do it? XD)
About restricting the purchase, it might be up to 3 or so purchases, or it might be that the price of the box would increase with every purchase. I think both could probably be still exploited by mules, so we'd be back to too many mules problem.
I would definitely hate if the boxes could give out currency, any currency. Unless there were some restrictions like, in a "regular/simple box" you can only obtain currencies like food and frosted donuts. On, let's call it "higher tier box" you can additionally obtain tokens. And a low chance on a :fc: in the let's call it "epic box". All this in addition to some specific groups of items. Fairies are so damn rare :mcargh:
Maybe low and middle tier boxes could be for food and the higest tier box could be for a coin. It's similar with the daycare coupons.
If a person got a box for a coin and they didn't like what they got, I'm sure they would be successful in selling the item(s) and maybe even get that fairy coin back? Just a thought.

Or maybe it could be just one box, but with item/s from a given item group (let's say older TT recolors) that are certain, then some chance for let's say original older TTs, and then even smaller chance of an older queen's gift or a fairy item. And the price would be let's say 10k and it would increase after every purchase, so the inital price is 10k, the next price will be 15k and it could go up 5k with each purchase.
So, 1 box, 3 items always (different chance for each "tier" item, like 100%-30%-5% ??? idk how that corresponds :mcargh: ), price goes up with every purchase.
Idk, just an idea if anyone would want to actually implement that. There could be also a chance for shop items, that's fine by me XD Ooh, a chance for a unique knuffel! lol XD jk, that's not the point of the feature, I know And maybe the exclusive market items like Dahlia Eyes (Blue Iris), Virgo Hair (Indigo) and so on could be included into the "gamble". That would be nice.

I wouldn't want any other additional perks for donating, it's already a lot, it wouldn't be fair. If we go further than we already are, we're gonna get 10 items & some other in-game currency for just donating for 1 coin that can buy is another 4 items :mcsweat: (exaggerating of course, just making a point here)

I kinda dig this idea :mcblush: Maybe because I imagined Lord Wuffel being the Black Market Master LOL XD But I imagine that would be fun. Maybe even more so than any boxes.
