Bleh lol! It might get better though. Maybe she's just not setting it up very well! So I'll give it more time!

@wulf yeah I'm thinking to give up. I gave it a fair try, I'm more than halfway through. It's just when there are things like a character hallucinating or having a flashback, where it would be clearly marked out in the text, instead it's just one long ramble for the audiobook and it makes no sense.

Yeah... on the other hand I was just warning someone about a book that was written by an author in love with language. Its phrasing is super lyrical but often digresses so I knew that since they liked tighter pacing, they might have trouble.... but they're going to try it as an audiobook, where the almost poetry-like style might actually be more interesting than frustrating for them. (Nothing wrong with that style if you like it, I just happened to know they would be annoyed by it in the usual way of things).
So now it's been interesting listening to people talk about audiobooks vs texts, because the two formats really don't translate into an entirely equivalent experience. So it's interesting to see what works better in which.

@Akili: agree! I noticed I have a hard time perceiving emotions in the audio format. it might be the case with just those two narrators I heard, but it might be a more general thing

@jacob: oh that's complicated. could have added some breaks, like music or sth

@Sanssouci: fair enough. let's see how far it goes :D

Are there audiobooks that use music (either background or as break-markers)? I've never managed to get into them at all (no patience for it) and haven't come across that before.

Audio cues seem like a really useful thing, I just hadn't thought of it before. I wonder if they will become more prevalent and eventually the norm?

Hey guys, sorry I've been absent (if you have noticed, lol).

I didn't post as I am busy reading university stuff, as always, but not really progressing with Harry Potter 2 in Russian.
I finally have a topic for my second paper which is going to be Harry Potter 1 in translation, but that means I have to read it (again) in English and Russian. So yay for that. This will be a tough one, so I guess I have to drop HP 2 for now (again)...

@Akili: that's an interesting question. I think it can be a good way to indicate a change that's present in the text visually, like going from regular to italics. but with chapters, I find it somewhat redundant. the narrator says "chapter 1", "chapter 2" so additional breaks are not that helpful. to me

@Julez: heeeey!!! *hugs*
isn't it awesome to have another incentive to finish HP in Russian!
