Oh nooo dying plants.

Yea.. I ordered some more of the plant substrate and ordered new plants. =3=

If I can get the tank properly planted again, Benimaru should be safe to go back into the tank. There's barely any plant coverage. =/ It's weird...

Benimaru is currently in the 5g recovering. The poor thing's top fin is all torn up. When he chased Hakutou, he only chased, never nipped.. But Hakutou is totally biting.

Once I get the plants flourishing again, and Benimaru has recovered I'll put him back in the big tank. The plant coverage kept them safe from each other.

awww i'm sorry to hear that. are they both betas or are they different types of fish? i don't remember anymore.

Those 2 are both bettas
Then I got 5 Purple Harlequin Rasboras (should be 6 but I'm missing one?)
2 L397 Red Tiger Plecos
7-9 Amano Shrimp
5-6 Snowball Shrimp


This is the first time Hakutou's shown aggression.. but I think its because of the lack of plants.. Even my guppy grass is disappearing =/

That's because most people put them in tiny tanks.

Large tanks with plenty of plant coverage, they do fine once territories are sussed out..

Which WAS my tank except ... the plants seem to have died off for some reason. =/

With out all those plants, there's little to no coverage so they started attacking each other..

The weird part is, normally its Hakutou being chased.. now it was the other way around.

ah i see. 8u well lets hope you can get more coverage soon. maybe you can also try fake plants? just in case the real ones die off again.

Fake plants dont do anything for the tank other than give coverage, and fake plant coverage can cause harm to the fish by tearing into the fins and cause cuts on the body. It's why it's not recommended.

Maybe the new filter media i added to the canister has something to do with it... If it's not the fluval stratum disintegrating, then it might be that.

i'm glad we don't have any smokers in this household...ono
