Last year's event cost a total of 1285 whatever the units were.
This year is 2440. (Just did some quick math...even with the 10th place score on every single day, you would still need the free points from today to get one of each item!)

Though the free points are really nice, I'm really disappointed there's no actual task today :/ I'm five items short; now I just have to hope I can still collect my bunnies one more time tomorrow afternoon so I can get three of them.

That's surprising as that should give you enough for all items without having to participate in the event at all.

3 bunnies = 150 each day, event lasts for 15 days so 2250 with the bunnis + 250 free at the end = 2500 and 2440 are needed for all items.

The free 250p at the end were such a lovely surprise! Now I managed to snag all the fans and the bunny masks as well as the lips which I wanted the most c:

Can't you not collect from the bunnies until after 24 hours though? So there would be 14 possible collections, not 15?

That, and I didn't get the first two bunnies till day two, and I didn't get the third till after I noticed I wasn't going to get enough with the two.
I didn't have money to buy fairy coins with the event started.
