It's been a while and I've been reading a lot this year compared to the previous couple years. At least that's what it feels like. Got 10/12 books done for the year so here are books 5-10 since my last post.

5. Every Last Fear by Alex Finlay. 4/5
6. House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City, #3) by Sarah J Maas. 3/5. This one was pretty meh to me compared to the first two in the series.
7. The Villa by Rachel Hawkins. 3/5
8. The Cage by Bonnie Kistler. 2/5. This was a random pick up from my library because it sounded interesting. It really wasn't as interesting as it sounded.
9. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. 4/5. I kind of understand the hype even though I eyerolled hard at some parts of it.
10. Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie. 3/5. Ending was pretty meh and wasn't as spooky as I was hoping it would be.

Two book I'm still reading, but got pushed aside are What Have We Done by Alex Finlay (which this one I just picked up again and will have it done soon) and The Spectacular by Fiona Davis (not sure when I will pick this one up again, but hopefully before the end of the year)

Since my last post, I got a new coworker who enjoys reading and it's fun talking to her about books and giving each other recommendations even though she's more into romance and I still like my fantasy and mystery.

I’m sad to say but I do a lot of my reading online these days. Mainly reading web novels. And fan fiction from my favourite fandom. Most recent web novel I’ve read is probably Myst Might Mayhem. It’s a Korean novel sent in the murim i think. Lots of magical abilities and martial arts. Main character is a crazyyyy dude lol.

Have you tried Isekai Terry: Tropes of Doom? It's a very entertaining comedy based on murim-stories and isekai-stories, and I keep laughing and laughing while reading it.
I'm particularly fond of Drumstick.
The character, that is.
It's not very long at the moment, you should try it out!

edit: Oh, but it has some profanity. So if you dislike swearing, then maybe skip it?

I’ve never heard of it tbh. XD;; tbh, I sometimes just pick random ones off the Webnovel and Chereads apps. And then, once it gets to paid chapters, I check to see if Wuxiaworld has them. XD if not, and I really like it and the novel is a translated version, I look up the raws and use chrome to google translate lol.

Well, it was originally written in English, and the link I posted is the free-to-read site that the author is posting on currently, so that part shouldn't hold you back if you want to check it out.
It's definitely funnier for people who have read other isekai novels or murim novels, because it references the common tropes.
(I love the recurring rice hat thing, you'll know it when you see it).
But I should go make some of my friends read it anyhow, even if they don't normally read that genre. The humor is good enough to cross over.

Yeah I love isekai altho I prefer a lot more wuxia xianxia transmigration stories. And they’re mostly Chinese webnovels too. I think the only non Chinese one I’ve really read is Myst Might Mayhem which I think is a Korean novel. I’ve also read a few Japanese light/web novels but mainly bc the manga versions for these novels are taking so long to update lol.

Maybe I’ll check the one you’re reading some time. I love to read novels that make fun of silly cliched tropey stuff. I remember reading a bit of a Chinese novel where MC is a transmigrator in a wuxia xianxia world and he has a system that gives him options to take when he encounters something. Like for example, the system would be like “Your senior sister wants your help. What do you do?” And then gives him several options, each with rewards and when he sees all the dangerous options, he goes “nope, I’ll use the decline option and just get a few random attributes!”

Ha ha ha, I finally knocked another two books off my to-read list!

Island of the Mad and Foxglove Summer. They're both, kind of, mysteries.
The first one is historical and is a Sherlock Holmes fan work, kind of.
The second is modern and has fantasy elements.
