I also took Latin lessons when I was in high school.
It's no longer mandatory, but it used to be.

I sometimes feel so old when I say things like that.
"Oh, in my times we would learn Latin."

@Amura: Mandatory Latin isn't such a bad idea tho, because it helps understanding where words come from and is a good way to keep the language sorta "alive". I wish we had mandatory Latin or Ancient Greek here, there are options you can take but barely anyone chooses to :/ We were maybe ten pupils in the classroom.

@Moi: TWO RAIDENS--- That's insane luck! A friend started a second account barely four days ago and already got Childe and Diluc... I was crying X'DD Ffs, my regular banner pulls only gave me two 4* weapons and one Ningguang! This is so darn frustrating haha
If only we could get some more every day gifts from Mihoyo ;_; They aren't very generous...

Yes, it did help a lot.
Some basic knowledge of Latin makes understanding scientific terminology so much easier.

But.
It's fallen in disgrace.
It's outdated.
New trends in education point towards completely different directions.

@Amura: Education is going all the wrong ways here... At this point, kids barely know how to speak decent french anymore, let alone write without making a mistake on every word Drives me crazy when I see some people's stories on IG...

Education is going the wrong way everywhere.
There is this new trend, which is of course based on theories of people who have never set foot on a high school, and focuses on the "useful"/"real life"/"new technology" stuff without paying any attention to setting proper bases for anything.
So of course it ends up being a huge waste of time.

But I better not start ranting, cause for me this is a huge thing.

@Moi: that's a wise decision, I can't be that reasonable X'D.... I gotta leave for a couple weeks soon so not gonna do it now, but when I get back I'm totally gonna get the 5€ monthly pass for more pulls. Since well... I've been saving hard, and yesterday evening I was playing and my dog kept pestering me to play fetch and.... I tried to go too fast, ended up pressing the wrong button... lost 10 wishes over the weapon banner I wasn't even interested in

@Amura: do iiiiit, rant all you want, pal, because I totally agree with you XD Nothing's going ok in education nowadays, and I'm not even talking about school only; even at home, most parents aren't even able to teach their kids respect and politeness >_> we're gonna have generations of uncivilized brats

Because people mistakes discipline with tirany.
No, it's not the same.
Discipline comes from "disciple". And those of us with basic Latin knowledge (see where I'm heading?) know it literally means "student".
And teaching my child to behave is my responsability.
It does not mean being violent, it does not mean punishing them in any way. I've never grounded him and I hope I never do - cause it would mean that I've run out of other resources which I strongly prefer.
But he knows his mom & his dad set the rules, and he must abide. We are just not allowing him to disobey.

Many people let the kids do what they please, never care to set clear rules for them. And you know what's funny? Then they get angry when kids don't do what they expect them to!
Isn't that hypocrital?
They don't want to be the "severe" parent, just because that's hard work.

You can set clear boundaries for kids, explain them what they are, and most likely they will follow them.
Sometimes they will not - don't we all break the rules here and there? - and it's your turn to make them clear it's unnaceptable. Simple as that.
I work with teenagers, and believe me, they usually know how far they can push the line - and with whom!
