:o it is rare to see a cactus in seattle save for those used as houseplants, but i will keep that in mind - and akili's advice about wax! - for the next time i go to the desert. i'm ... well, a bit allergic to sunlight, so visiting the bright states has been turning into an endeavor, but my mum loves all things desert - particularly the high desert in new mexico. perhaps i should warn her about cacti flowers.

Oh! I forgot to respond here again...
Moi I don't know if it's true about cactus flowering however many years... I think some varieties are of the usual, flower-every-year type, and then some are of the only-flower-when-triggered-by-a-set-amount-of-water, and some are at least in the questionable lore of 'common knowledge' flowering every seven years...
It was why I was so curious about this thread! The title made me think you had new information about it!
