Hmm... I don't think a tail would be a good idea. Most of them would
interact with the wings and kind of overlap? But some floating
decorations might add the extra something you're thinking about!
For me, I struggle with backgrounds quite alot. I never feel like they
balance well enough for the outfit. I was wondering if there is any
general tips someone could offer! Bonus points for shop items. ;_;

Spoiler
What I always do is if the avi is busy ( Has the shiva arms, Wings, Tail, Or is just generally cluttered.) I use a simple bg, such as the Basic Gradient, Plain Background or even the Seadancer Background if it fits. That way the avi doesn't blend to much and it can stand out better. Your avi right now is a good example of a cluttered avi( I don't mean that in a bad way, just that it had wings and big hair ^^) The Gradient bg you chose makes me look at the avi, not at whats around it.
For a simple avi (Such as mine ) I use a bg that has patterns/designs/more then one color, so that the avi doesn't look like it still needs something.
Ex: These were some of the Bgs I looked at while making this avi.

Also, For some colors there arn't a lot of bgs to chose from, so what I do is use a different color that's as similar as possibly. Lilac for Lavender/ Ecru for beige and vice versa.
Sorry this became so long, but my question is about the Marguerite Tiara, Does anyone have any suggestions on how to wear it. Every time I make an avi and equipped it, it looks off. Maybe just a hair/wig that makes it look good.

Thank you so much!
For that tiara... It's a bit difficult but from what I've seen from working
with it so far, is it seems important to have a hair style that exposes it
in a way thats appealing. Either one side, hiding the middle, or only showing
the middle, and so on. Due to how it sort of unbalanced, it can cause a lil weirdness...
but I think it is mostly about using hairs that expose it in a nice way.
My Request:
What are some basic shop items I should pick up to expand my
wardrobe and make creating avatars easier?

Any suggestion for a top and a background for my current avatar? (Since I change them a lot, the current one is a unicornish tomboy in mocha and aqua, eating a doughnut).

I suggest that you should change hairstyle.
I need to find more things to add to my whishlist that wouldn't clash with kind of magical theme I have going on.

For the current burgundy/gray white/coffee avatar? You could try the Halloween '12 Dark Hibiscus or Darkness Staff 2

Maybe also the Halloween '15 Ring in coffee or a Gothic Flower Ring? A Waist Chain could be interesting too.
I've had this avatar for a while, but I don't have any inspiration right now! Someone give me a theme?

How about something spring-like, soft and flowery? Maybe a fairy theme!
Hope this helps...
I'm kind of lost with my current avie, keep changing it back and forth - can't quite get the result I was hoping for.

I'm enjoy the fact that you're sticking to the frosted theme. I'm enjoying the simplicity of the torso. I'm not digging the blush as it seems to occupy too much of the cheeks not to mention there's no other shade of pink. If you're insistent on having some blush maybe the Victorian one would work if you have it. It's a lot more subtle. I think removing it altogether would look good too.
A simple forehead gem or a tiara in lilac would work nicely to compliment the shades of purple in the scales.
