Oh, I do recognize it as true French, it's actually closer to the French spoken during the Revolution and before so technically theirs is the true French.
It's just that it's not an accent I'm used to very much and hearing it randomly in the streets, when it's already a very touristy area where a lot of languages are spoken, is always a challenge because my brain thinks it should know this language but it's different.

Well I just heard that Quebec French and France French was different. I don’t have much comparison but that’s what I’ve heard anyway.

As a person who has experienced both, they are very different. Quebec French has a lot of slang words essentially its like comparing British and American English.

Real talk for a moment: Can we Go back to that month that Pokemon Go was released. Everyone was so happy and the only people down my throat were old men at work who complained about a cell phone app kids were playing. Can we have that? Please.

Spoken it's even worse than the difference between British English and American English. At least those are both instantly recognizable as English. Quebec French and French French is a bit less instant.
But yeah it's a very particular and obvious accent. But we do understand each other most of the time.

Yeah there are whole words and phrases that are just different. In my opinion Canadian French sounds a bit choppier.

Go for it! It is indeed pretty interesting.
The regional differences in languages is pretty interesting in general.
