Kira could only sit there and rub her best friend's hand comfortingly. She could only imagine what Ruby was going through. "I know you won't hurt anybody, Ruby," she said, gently. She was well aware of the chains that were rising up, slowly but surely, but she refused to even look at them, keeping her attention on Ruby.
Kayo was watching the girls from a distance, trying his best to keep away. He had no idea whether Ruby would respond well to him coming over. The chains were worrying him as well, especially since he remembered how scared Kira was the last time it happened. But his hands were tied. He wanted to be close enough to protect the girls if anything happened, but he couldn't move from his position either.

Kira noticed something weird about Ruby's voice. It was rather hoarse. She looked the worse for wear too, now that she properly looked at it. Up till now, she'd thought it was Ruby's mental state that made her look like this, but now... Could it be that Ruby was sick?
She took one hand off of her friend's and placed it against the other's forehead. She was burning up. Dismayed, she looked at Kayo, who was still watching from a distance, unable to act. She then turned back to Ruby.
"Hey, Ruby?" she said, gently. "You've earned that trust, okay?" She gave her a warm smile. "We've known each other for years now, and I know you. You wouldn't hurt me." She squeezed Ruby's hand back, unable to even imagine what she must be going through.
"Look, why don't you go to sleep on my bed?" she offered. "I think you're sick, and you need rest." She rubbed her hand soothingly. "Kayo will just run down to the med store real quick so you can have some medicine, and I'll stay with you the whole time. What do you say?"

Kira could see Kayo's face visibly relax as Ruby's chains retracted back into her body. She nodded at him and he understood immediately: he dashed off downstairs to get the necessary medicines for Ruby." Hand still clasped in Ruby's, Kira gave it a gentle upward tug, noticing that she was already drifting off. "Come on, Ruby," she encouraged. "You can get some proper rest if you're lying down." She put an arm around her best friend for support and began getting up.
All Kayo could think about while running to the drugstore was how useless he'd felt in the situation at home; both for his sister as well as Ruby, his - okay, probably better to go with friend, because he didn't know what else to call her, and she didn't know any different anyway. Besides, calling her something else would just force him to admit something he wasn't quite ready to admit yet. Best to play it safe for the moment. He got the medicine and dashed back home to give it to Ruby.

Once Ruby was lying down on her bed, Kira found some small towels and a bowl of water to cool down Ruby's head, doing it as quickly as possible so Ruby wouldn't notice her brief absence. She covered her with a blanket and squeezed out the water from one of the towels she'd soaked in the bowl, and gingerly spread it out on Ruby's forehead.
Meanwhile, Kayo returned from the store and walked into Kira's room, assuming that the girls would be in there since they were no longer out in the living room. He handed over the medicine to Kira, and put a hand on her shoulder. "How's she doing?" he asked.
((I'm so sorry!!! I swear I thought I responded to this, but then I checked after all this time and saw I actually hadn't DX))

Ruby followed Kira to her cozy little room and laid down on the soft bed, easily getting comfy just by snuggling under the blanket. Everything smelled liked Kira. The bed, the pillow, even the blanket, it was quite relaxing to the girl. Her eyes slowly closed soon after she gotten comfy on the bed, and felt a cool, damp, cloth on her forehead. Kayo
Her eyes fluttered open when she heard Kayo come into the room, but she was too tired to hold them open, so they slid closed once again as the fever took a toll on her.

As soon as he'd questioned after Ruby's state, his eyes strayed over to her sleeping figure on Kira's bed, and his eyes immediately went wide. "Kira don't let her go off to sleep just yet!" he said, his voice low yet insistent, as he held out the medicine bottle. He shook his head as he watched his sister smack her forehead in frustration.
She then gently shook Ruby awake, silently cursing her lack of presence of mind. "Hey, Rube?" she called out, keeping her voice as low as possible. "Can you sit up for a little bit? Kayo got you some medicine."
