Yeah I do need a break.

I'm trying to do original superheros and badguys. One of my heroes is not cooperating. lol

It's not too hard. Just make notes of what you want for your character and then draw. At least it seems easy for me.

I just realized that "take out" means food, dating, and murder. And if you were a female praying mantis you'd have all three.

@light_sucks: You'll never know unless you try. Plus, you know, it's the sort of thing that gets better with practice.

Evening/Morning/Afternoon everyone!
Hope you all had (or are having) a good day.

@Candy
I know I'm kind of jumping into the conversation here, but I hope your mother's alright.
I don't know enough about arthritis to offer advice, sadly.
If you need anything, just let me know! If nothing else, can lend an ear.

@Mikael
Spoiler
Oh gosh, that sounds so fun! I’ve done personality tests/quizzes for OCs on my own and filled out little questionnaires, but not really with other people. I’ve shared them with my best friend, but that’s because we’ve roleplayed together for years. Seriously, if you start anything like that in your Hangout thread, let me know. <:

I once tried to make a Hangout surrounding writing but I sucked at maintaining it and no one really posted, pfft. Would really like to make a Hangout thread, though, since I’ve been here so long and I could probably host some fun activities if I tried.

The lighting’s bad in my room right now, but as soon as I have a day off (so .. Tuesday?) I’ll take some pictures of my art. You may have to remind me, haha.

That’s kind of right up my alley. Usually mxf or mxm pairings, though I wouldn’t be opposed to fxf. Just haven’t really tried it much. I do fantasy too, but most of it’s along the lines of vampires and werewolves and such. Vampire Diaries style, haha. Though I roleplay high fantasy characters too sometimes. And same as far as the styles go! I’ve done chat style, prose, social media. Never done RP through mail, though. That would be interesting to try.

Oh, okay! That makes sense. If people aren’t open to an actual conversation, it won’t go anywhere. I’m not quite confident enough in myself as a Christian to really defend Christianity, so I kind of just don’t. If I know what to say and feel like I can really make a point or reach the other person, then I might try. But that’s pretty much how I see my faith too! Love each other first, be empathetic, be understanding.

Yeah, I knew someone who’s like that too. He would spend all of his money on the latest tech/video games, then turn around a few days later on FB talking about how he didn’t have any shirts or money for bills. It was frustrating, because of course people wanted to help out and offered him money, but like ... he could have avoided that situation? I can’t really dictate what he does with his money, but I do think it’d be smart to balance it out. That’s how I try to live my life, anyway. Of course, I’m cutting it a little close with this last paycheck, haha.

Aw, I love superhero sidekicks. I’m still learning about a lot of them. Until recently I didn’t know anything about Jason Todd and now I’m really invested. Jimmy Olsen’s great – I didn’t realize that in the comics he was often Clark’s best friend? In Smallville they really didn’t paint him that way. And they certainly didn’t in the newer movies. I don’t know a lot of Superman lore, really, but I’m trying! I’m on my way to learning, haha. I did start out learning most things from Smallville, yeah. I feel like most people think it’s a poor adaptation, but it didn’t have ten seasons for nothing and now that I know more about storylines that influenced the show, it’s fun to compare.

Yes! Gail Carson Levine did Ella Enchanted, Two Princesses of Bamarre, and a bunch of Princess stories. I read a bunch in middle school – though admittedly I never read Ella Enchanted.

Among the Hidden, from what I recall, is about a society where every family is allowed only two kids. The main character is a third child, I think, and has to hide away. Ends up meeting other third-children on a chatroom and they stage a rebellion or something. There are a lot of books, but I only read the first two or three. And I clearly don’t remember much about them, haha.

I haven’t! What’s it about? If there’s a film version I might cheat and just watch it first, pfft.

Shounen’s pretty good! I tend to do better with shounen in the anime format, because I can binge through all the action, haha. When I read it, I skip over it and miss out on the art, tbh. HxH is fantastic, though! My friend Jenny was watching it with me. We’re somewhere in season 3. On that note, Yu Yu Hakusho is one of my all-time favorite shounen anime (never read it). I also really love Saiyuki. If you’ve never read it, please go read all three series. Saiyuki and Saiyuki Gaiden are my favorites, but Reload’s good too. And I’ve never read Canis, but I’ll definitely look into it!

I was watching Jenna Marbles, I think. Something fun to make me laugh.

I hope you slept well! Somehow it’s already midnight here. I got off at 7PM and only just now sat down to get on KofK. Wah. D;

How was your day?

@Fran: Yo! I'm currently working on that OC doc/ref thing I promised days ago. XD
      Spoiler
Ahh, will do! XD What I've done in that thread in the past was an icon-centric meme thing, where I would pick a theme with five questions, and people would post 100x100 sized icons as answers with accompanying explanations. It was pretty fun, even if I do say so myself.

Dude, it is hard to get people in your hangout and keep it active. I don't know how other folks manage it, tbh. You're always welcomed to host something in my hangout too, if you like. But you know, if you revived your hangout, I'd join it too. XD I don't go to many hangouts 'cause I don't know the folks there or wouldn't be as involved in their themes.

I'll try to remind you about the art. I work Tuesdays, but it's usually not too busy, so I might be able to slip in here for that.

Aha, niiice. I've never done FxF, but considering that I rarely have female mains, it's none too surprising. I'd like to fix that some day, and I guess I sort of am in the process of that, since I'm working on my supporting female cast and investing in them more. It's helping me get a feel for writing women. I rarely do MxF, but admittedly, I'm fickle when it comes to female characters. *facehands*

I like vampires and werewolves and that whole paranormal genre too --as I see it, it's still an extension of fantasy, and there are a lot of interesting lore about them. I used to watch a lot of Buffy: the Vampire Slayer, and I've read a couple of Anne Rice novels. I was really into that stuff in early college. I also don't watch Teen Wolf, but funnily enough, I read a lot of Sterek fics. It's a sad kind of funny, how much I'm invested in the ship. I just can't watch a show the does gay-baiting though. I feel like it's kinda mean to the gay community? The gay-baiting, that is.

Most of my fantasy involves European folklore/legends, European fairy tales, Greek mythology, or witches. I tend to do my own world-building for those, but there's a heavy influence in the previously mentioned genres.

Funny that we were talking about religion, because today I was talking to my coworker about it too. We agreed that religion should be something for the person who believes in it, not for using against other people's. My beliefs shouldn't be tearing you down, and your beliefs shouldn't be forced on me; that sort of thing.

The people who complain about money when they don't have jobs (because they aren't looking hard enough) or can't manage it are pretty annoying to me. Even if you don't have many skills, you can always start with something basic that even a high schooler can do (like food service). I know so many high schoolers who've gotten jobs just by applying to places, and I have friends who've entered dozens of applications and interviews before they've gotten hired. You just have to keep at it, and even if you get a job you don't want, at least you can use it as a base to grow and move forward.

I think the frustrating thing about those people is that they guilt/burden others. I have a friend who always complains about being broke (not the same guy as previously mentioned), and I always felt bad when we hung out at places, like I should pay for his meal because a group of us would be eating at a restaurant together and he would just be there and not order anything? I have another friend who's the same way too. I kinda understand them wanting to join in on the hanging out, but it still feels kinda sad and as a friend you want to help them, but at the same time, it's like it's something they could've prevented.

Jason Todd is one of my friend's favorite Robins. I'm for Tim Drake, mostly because he was the less emo of the Robins. I liked him more in the Batman end of the franchise, rather than Teen Titans.

Aha, I've only seen part of an episode of Supergirl (and will probably not watch it again), but their choice depiction of Olsen was completely different from who he was originally. XD I kinda liked it in a way, but I also liked the more nerdy original.

"Ella Enchanted" was a great book, and the she and Charm (I think that was his name?) were adorable together. I really liked them both, which again, unusual, because all too often, I find many couples in pairings to be annoying. (I think it's the teen drama and the bickering that puts me off a number of them. Also the lack of communication and being able to talk about problems like adults. *facehands*) Oh yeah, Levine did a bunch of fairy tale retellings, didn't she? I prefer McKinley's retellings in general, although Jane Yolen also did some interesting ones (though I do have a small problem with her, since the endings of most of her books are weak. It often feels like she gave up or had to rush so many of them, but they generally have promising beginnings). I read a lot of fairy tale retellings as a kid, aha. I still have a number of them in my closet, in fact.

Watership Down is a story of rabbits (like what if rabbits in our world were capable of thought, but not to the extent of being able to communicate with people?) In the story, a rabbit named Fiver receives a vision that their community would die horrible deaths if they did not leave their burrow. He convinces his brother, Hazel, of this fate. After failing to convince the chief to have everyone leave the burrow, Hazel and Fiver, along with a few others, make their escape to find a new and safer home. They have many adventures along the way, have obstacles to overcome, and we as the readers learn of some very interesting rabbit lore (the come off like African and Native American folktales). It's not the sort of writing that reads easily for everyone, but I do appreciate how descriptive it is and the poetry of the writer's style.

XD I haven't seen any of the series you've mentioned! I've gotta check them out sometime.

Aha, it's 10:30 or so here. I had work today, but it was fine. How was your day?

When your internet drops for like twenty minutes. :mcdead:

      @Mikael
      Spoiler
Yes! I can’t wait to read over all of it. I’ll be up a little while longer if you happen to finish it tonight. No rush, though, lol.

That sounds kind of fun. Definitely gets you thinking outside of the box! And it’s not a typical event, from what I can tell.

Right? I’m always amazed at some of the other hangouts because they really thrive. I’ve only ever consistently posted in Moi’s and Aki’s threads, but lately I’ve not been active in the Hangouts forum. Mostly here in the Charities forum. o vo

Aw, don’t worry about it! I’m off Tuesday and Wednesday, so I’m bound to remember at some point. I’ll be lying on my couch doing nothing productive and think: “Oh right, pictures.” We’ll get there eventually, haha.

Honestly, same? As far as being fickle about female characters. I don’t have a lot of female OCs. I believe I get intimidated by them in a way. I worry that I’m not making a strong character, or that I’m falling into poor stereotypes, or that other women would hate her. It’s like .. with female characters, I feel like I have to create something perfect or else she’ll be hated by everyone. Because female characters tend to get more negative criticism by fans, though that’s in part because the writing can be shallow. I think a lot of artists have created really powerful women, but man I still see so much crap said about female characters all the time. :/ I just want to do the ladies justice! My fantasy story has a couple of female characters, but I really have to work on them. My story has a male lead, a male antagonist, and a male supporting character – all really important. Then the females are supposed to be just as important as supporting characters, but I’ve yet to do a lot of work on them. In fact, I pretty much scrapped everything I had for one of them because early versions of her were focused too much on her feelings for the main. I really want her to stand out on her own without falling into the “unrequited love for the main” role. ANYWAY LOOK AT THIS RAMBLE. Whoops.

I love Buffy! I was watching it all on Netflix before they took it down. Somewhere in season .. 6? Something? I don’t remember. Oh yeah. I watched Teen Wolf the first two seasons. Scott is a great main character, and Sterek was definitely a good ship. It seemed like it had a solid build-up but they kept swerving. I stopped watching years ago, but it’s pretty frustrating when writers bait like that. That was one of the problems I had with Supernatural, too, though my problems with SPN go much deeper than that pfft.

Oh wow! I haven’t gone too deep with European folklore outside of the classic fairy tales, I guess. I used to really love greek mythology though so I have a soft spot for it. I love reading mythological tales. I’d definitely love to hear more about the worlds you’ve created in these genres. c:

Yes! Oh, so true. Ultimately, I feel that my faith is a relationship between me and God. Other people can tell me what they think, but I’m going to think and act based on what I feel God’s saying to me. When I was initially starting out, I was told that praying is important because it’s your window of conversation with God. And like, I feel that. I used to think I had to pray a certain way to be a Real Christian, but I’ve gotten comfortable with the idea of chatting it up with God when I pray. I mean, He sees everything I do anyway, right? Pfft. No use acting like someone I’m not. But that’s just me! Other people might feel differently and that’s cool. Not my place to dictate how people handle their faith.

I admit that it’s hard to find a job because of the demand. And honestly, it’s hard to find something that pays well. But. It’s true that you can get solid experience from something entry level, and that’ll help in the long run anyway. I’d recently been encouraging my roommate to get a job. We went out to the mall and asked for applications – of course all of them were online – but it was good anyway! She just got hired at JC Penney working jewelry and we’re really excited.

      Exactly! I often offer to pay anyway if I can, because I want to enjoy my close friends’ company. But if they’re spending their money on things they shouldn’t and consequently have nothing for food, etc, it’s like .. come on. And then to see people be like, “I just don’t have any food I would really appreciate it if someone would help me out.” Man, you had money and you chose to spend it on something that wasn’t food. It’s not everyone else’s job to keep you fed when you’re a working adult. I’m pretty compassionate but there are certain situations where I get a little fired up. D;

See, I know pretty much nothing about Tim Drake. I didn’t like Batman for the longest time, so I never really learned about his sidekicks. I used to think there was just one Robin and that was his name, haha.

I’ve watched only one episode of Supergirl. Haven’t decided if I’ll give it a shot for real. It’s not part of the same universe as the movies, so I don’t .. really care, haha. I liked Arrow for the first couple seasons, but I got bored of it. Flash was good in season one, and I’ve heard season two was good too, but I’ve yet to watch it.

I believe it. It’s her most famous for a reason. I always wished Bamarre would get the recognition that Ella Enchanted did, but sadly, didn’t happen. (Honestly understandable. Communication would solve most relationship drama). Yes! She did. It seems like retellings are making a comeback? Or maybe they never left, but a lot of people are interested in series that retell old fairy tales. I’ve picked up a couple Peter Pan ones, personally, but my friend has a lot of books about Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Red Riding Hood, etc. They seem to be twisted versions, which is interesting.

Wait. So like .. is it told from the rabbit’s perspective? I’m really curious! Especially if it’s influenced by African and Native American lore. I read quite a bit of Native American folklore last year so you’ve definitely caught my attention.

I was going to say, “If nothing else, get into Saiyuki.” But ... that means you haven’t seen Yu Yu Hakusho either! So definitely give them both a look! YYH is by the creator of HxH which is part of why HxH is so special to me. It’s got some old tropes, but it’s great. Also that means you get to see my little grumpy demon Hiei in all his grumpy glory. o vo

Yay work! Also fine. Work was very slow, so my supervisor let me go home a little early. I’m glad, because I need a little more time to prepare for the busy work-weekend. Took a nice long shower and everything. I just hope I don’t wake up groggy, haha.

@Fran: I would frantically run up and down the stairs to check why it wasn't working.
          Spoiler
I'd love to finish it tonight, but I don't know if I'll be able to. I just get so gushy about my OCs... so many things I want to say, and this is supposed to be an art ref! DX

So far I'm active in Kat's hangout, KC's hangout, my hangout, the Charities forum, the Avatar forum, and the game's thread for "Flight Rising".

Aha, I have most Wednesdays off too!

Dude, I feel the same way when making female characters! *sob* Too many times, I end up worried that she's falling into one stereotype or another, or rebelling too much against one stereotype or another. I think I've been scarred from my RP noob days where my female characters came off Sue-ish (gotta start somewhere, but it's no less embarrassing). I mean, my guy characters probably came off Stu-ish too, but it never felt as bad because of the guy to girl RP ratio.

There are plenty of authors who do female characters justice though. I love Cynthia Voigt for that, and Robin McKinley has some interesting ones. Megan Whalen Turner has excellent female characters, but they are all secondary so far.

I think the problem I generally have with female characters (and effeminate gay boys) in fiction and RPs is that they don't seem to have much of a drive or identity outside of romance? Like, most of the time, the RPer's goal is for their kids to hook up with someone, and I'm fine with that, since I like romance, but once it becomes "my character's goals in life is to get a boyfriend", it just feels a little sad to me. I mean, I know RL people like that, but I don't think that's very attractive, and I certainly don't want my OCs to become romantically involved with them. OCs who are more well-rounded and are more purpose-driven are naturally more likable and appealing (as is in real life). I also tend to stay clear of characters who are emotional vampires (generally those who are more of a pain to deal with than an asset in my OCs' lives). Not always the case though; for better or for worse, Ara is actually drawn to people who can be difficult to deal with (and he has a good reason for it). Can't always agree with your OC, I guess. XD

I think I'm getting better with balancing the male and female characters in my stories. Ara's life is full of all sorts of women, of all sorts of ages and personalities and backgrounds. I just need to flesh them out more.

Also, don't stop rambling! I love reading it! I think that the "unrequited love for the main" trope can still be written right though. I mean, I'm one of those people who believe you can get away with anything in writing, if you're good enough at it. I've had a character who made a stereotypical uke on purpose, and he was such a hilarious and adorable character because she would parody him to the extreme but balance with enough traits to keep him likable. She's a talented writer though; always made me laugh.

That's the reason I'll never ever watch Supernatural. I kinda have secondhand anger about that? Not really, but I am put off by it. I actually liked what I know about the straight ships in Teen Wolf too! I thought Scott and Allison were adorable together (they were such a sweet and sappy couple, but why did they have to do the whole break-up thing? And hooking up with other people? Why can't we have teens who are more committed to each other? I mean, dude, and Isaac x Allison?? NOOOOooo!) You can tell I have strong feels. XD; Good grief, but I hated that thing with Derek dating other people --not because of the other characters per se, but because it really seemed un-Derek-like? I mean, this guy is so wary and emotionally constipated; he has social problems for real and was burned by love (I'm a horrible person for this pun), so you'd think he'd be more wary or take it slow? Stiles hooking up with people at least made some sense. Ugh. (Sorry for the rant; I'm just... I need things to make sense.)

Aha, I would ramble on for eternity about it, tbh. I've made cultures, history, communities, lore, and terminology for my worlds --to different degrees for each, but still. I love all that background info stuff. It just helps me get a better grasp on my OCs, knowing where they're born and who they've grown up with and how that stuff affects them and makes them who they are.

Yes, that's true. I think prayer's not a formula, it's you talking to God. The awesome thing about it is, you don't have to change your language to speak to God; rather, God speaks your language! God already understands you! He can communicate in English or French or Tagalog. He can use images or the people around you or words from the Bible. He can communicate so simply that even kids understand Him, and He can use such wisdom and complex terms that leave scholars mind-blown. I find it to be very beautiful that we have a God who knows us that much, that He can say just the right thing in the right way.

Aha, the job market... I feel it. Congrats to your roommate, though! Good luck to her!

Hear, hear! We're all adults, so we should attempt to act like it? XD

I can see how you wouldn't like Batman. I think I like him because he was the hero I grew up with. Plus, his villains are pretty badass. Except the Joker. I have no love for Mr. J.

Barmarre is still relatively popular in the YA community though, yeah? I've heard many people mention it before when the genre gets brought up.

Retellings have been around since I was a teen, but it looks like the YA trend right now is all dystopian. I remember how it was vampires and werewolves for a while. (Not that that was anything new, but Twilight blew it up.) I've picked up some Peter Pan ones too, but I haven't gotten around to reading them yet. Do tell me if any of the ones you got are good -- for PP and for fairy tales!

Yeah, it's told from the rabbit's perspective (with a lot of real rabbit facts added in). The lore bit is only in their mythos, not for the majority of the book, but it's still good.

Nah, I've seen YYH (I meant I haven't seen the other ones; sorry, I forgot that excluded YYH!) There is a character in HxH who is similar to Hiei, and he's one of my favorite in that arc.

What tickles me about the HxH/YYH manga artist is that his wife is the manga artist of Sailor Moon. I find it very cute that they got together.

Aha, well we both shouldn't stay up too late anyways. XD

          @Mikael
          Spoiler
I’m both shocked and amused that we’re talking in like four different places right now. I still have those PMs to respond to, pfft.

You know, for once, I wasn’t running up and down the stairs to check it. I had faith it would come back eventually. Took that time to make some spaghettios and play a game on my phone, lol. But it came back! It usually goes out around 1AM for some reason. Think it has to do with the internet company, but I don’t know too much about that, so.

Art ref or not, I definitely want to know about your OCs. Seriously, let it out! It might give me more ideas for the drawings anyway. <:

Yes, okay, so I’m not the only one. That’s honestly a big relief, haha. It’s hard! For some reason, I feel like I can do just about anything with male characters. I can roleplay/create hyper-masculine, protective dudes, and I can create feminine guys and emotional guys and timid guys and flirty guys and all sorts of every-guys, but I really struggle bringing that same variety to female characters. It’s something I’m aware of though, so I’m trying to work on it.

I’ve never read any of their works, but the promise of strong female characters is enough to get me interested. I’ll have to add them to my list of authors to look up. c:

That makes sense. I’ve fallen into the trap of my characters in RP almost always looking for love. It really does take away from their character if that’s their only motivation in life. Sometimes, specifically with roleplay, it can be hard to stray away from that since you’re roleplaying a relationship of some form in the first place, whether that’s romantic or platonic. That’s why my friend and I write flash fiction pieces and stories for our characters, and create huge plots that involve factions of characters or families or groups of friends. We’re able to explore different dynamics and give most people a chance to step forward.

My character Emil is pretty heavily motivated by relationships, but not in the typical way? It kind of contributed to him shutting down emotionally. In the latest version of the story, his first love was presumed dead and he couldn’t really handle that emotionally? He doesn’t make relationships easily and the ones he has are incredibly important to him. They had their sons, Jasora and Cecil, and he struggled showing them the kind of love they deserved after believing their mom dead. I mean, but that’s only one part of his personality, since I’ve really worked on him at this point. He’s pretty focused on power and control, being a magical king, and being emotionally shut down really contributes to him staying level-headed and strategic. I wish I knew more about battles and wars and ruling a country though. Next on my list for building his character, haha.

I got side-tracked with the Emil talk, but I thought to mention it because I was thinking of my characters and their relationship with romance. The main character of my story, Jasora, won’t have a love interest if I ever publish a novel about him. However, in RP, he does have one, but she’s not part of his story. His story is about how he takes after his father, how he wants to fight that and connect with people and be compassionate, etc. Family’s a pretty big theme in the story, based on what I’ve got plotted out so far. Family and forgiveness.

ANYWAY. That has nothing to do with romance and ladies anymore, pfft. Although, on a final note, the princess in my story, while originally introduced as an ex-fiancee for one of the mains, won’t be a romantic interest either. She’s like a best friend for Jasora, which is an important relationship to explore, I think, especially if/when the public is rooting for something romantic between them. It’s not that there won’t be romance, but I’m kind of relieved that, as I’ve been rambling about it, I’ve realized how little a role it will play in the lives of these characters.

And that might reflect me a little bit, too. I love romance on paper, but I’m more skeptical IRL with my own love life. Been burned before, it was a huge mess, and I’ve tried dating a couple other times – once with a best friend, who is still a best friend, and once with a cutie that I like as a person and get along with well, but felt kind of awkward about when it came to romantic stuff – but mostly when people have asked me out, or when I consider asking someone out, I’m just like “ mmMMmmMmm no “ because ... I don’t know. It seems hard, haha. Or scary? I’m not really sure. But I’m the type of person that wants to date a best friend and marry a best friend, and those are hard to come by for me. Anyway, I’ve always told people that they didn’t need romantic relationships to feel complete, and that you can live single and love yourself and still feel fulfilled, so maybe that’s something I’ve been doing for myself, I guess.

(Yikes, I went on forever and ever about all that.)

Oh bOOOOY could I go on about SPN. The baiting, the killing-off-all-the-ladies, the characters literally being dragged through hell for nothing, backwards development, etc etc etc. I stopped watching after S5, but I’ve seen a lot of episodes post S5 and they just .. contributed to me not wanting to watch it. /shrug. It’s a mess. Aw! I really liked Scott and Allison too, for the most part. I enjoyed Scott and Kira, as well, but also I just love Arden Cho, haha. I didn’t watch enough Kira episodes, sadly. (Yo, that’s such a good point! There’s nothing wrong with commitment. You don’t need characters to cheat on each other for drama). Hey man, lay it on me! I’m all down for venting about shows, haha.

Ahhhh, that’s amazing. You’ve put so much work into it, and I haven’t even seen it all yet. I can just tell. World-building is exciting and fascinating, though. It’s one of my favorite parts of creating anything. Making maps and languages and history. I didn’t realize how much I loved it until I really tried developing my story. It really does enhance your understanding of the characters and the world they live in.

Yes, that’s such a good point! He definitely reaches out in all sorts of ways. I’ve had two friends tell me that they’ve met people who spoke to them and they were convinced God was talking through said people. Sometimes you just feel that.

I will admit that Batman villains are pretty legit. I don’t know too many, but I’ve been learning more. Enough to know what kind of portrayals I like and don’t like, at least. But any time I think I’ve learned enough to talk about it, some Batman fanatic comes at me with details from some comic from 1989 or whatever, and I’m like the newbie who likes Batman because of a couple movies. Pfft.

I wouldn’t know, but if it is still popular, that’s pretty cool! I don’t meet people who’ve read it, sadly.

Yeah, dystopians have been pretty popular. Especially in the mainstream. I think retellings are gaining some traction, though, especially with the live action Disney movies coming out and bringing some old tales back to the surface. There are a lot of adaptations going around. The only Peter Pan one I’ve read so far is “Never, Never” by Brianna Shrum. It follows Hook as a child, drawn into Neverland by Peter – who is more mysterious and perhaps more threatening than he’s usually portrayed, which is my kind of Peter – and his life on Neverland as a kid, until eventually we see the Hook everyone knows about, the one that hates Peter and wants to kill him. I really enjoyed it, and Hook’s perspective was great. Even though it’s not a fairy tale, really, I would also recommend “The Song of Achilles,” a retelling of the Iliad, if that wasn’t clear, pff, told from the perspective of Patroclus. It’s about his relationship with Achilles, it’s pretty gay, and it’s beautifully written. Definite favorite.

That’s really neat! I’ll have to add that to my list, for sure. If anything, I’ll learn more about rabbits, which is always good, haha.

Oh. See. I had a feeling that you might have, but I went nerdy about it anyway. Then I take it back and you should still read Saiyuki, haha. On that note, Hiei’s one of my favorites because I roleplay him, but let it be known that Yusuke is the ultimate bae and I adore him. And yeah, I love that he’s married to the Sailor Moon artist! If I remember correctly, you can see little nods to each others’ work in their series, though I couldn’t pinpoint exactly where.

Too late! It’s 4AM and I’m writing this for you so I’ve failed in the ‘don’t stay up late’ department.

But I am going to lie down now.
Can’t wait to see those notes! n un
          G’night~

              Spoiler
Pfft, that sounds about right! Take your time though; you know I'm multitasking anyways. XD

I'm always paranoid that I'm getting hacked when my internet gets wonky. *facehands*

Aha, I'm so letting it out in the refs sheet. XD So, so much.

I wonder if that's because we're brought up in a society that elevates men, that puts men as the norm, the default, you know? It might have something to do with that on a subconscious level, as well as the lack of diverse (or even all that many good) female representation while growing up. I try to mix up my characters and go with a lot of diversity too, aha. But I also sometimes just make a character a certain way because I want to. I definitely have a favorite type to write for though (fun & dorky guys, and solitary grumps). It's good that you've realized it and are working on it. What I'm working on right now (aside from more steady female characters) is a diversity in age and ethnicity.

Many RPers want their characters to find love. One reason is because it's a nice and squishy feeling for said RPer, and another is because those in love are generally happy, and who doesn't want happiness for their OCs? I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that; heck, I'd want it too! I'm just incredibly fickle for my OCs though; I can't force it, no matter if our characters are the only two in the world.

Aha, writing in group RPs also help with creating diverse relationships. Thanks to the art group he started in, Ara's able to form all sorts of relationships, and in the process, discover all sorts of things about himself. It's really nice.

Dang, that sounds like one amazing backstory! Poor guy; I can see how that would make him closed off. Poor kids too!

All these stories sound so interesting and I want to hear more! DX Ty for sharing with me; I like the idea of the princess being Jasora's best friend, even though people would assume that a boy and girl who are close together would hook-up. XD

Ara's love-life is a joke, to the point that I'm known as the person who c***blocks their own OC, LOL. People often assume that he's romantically interested in one of his best friends (one dude, one chick), but they're just really close buddies.

There are many reasons for why he was single for a long time. One was that despite his loyalty and bravado, he could be weak-willed and cowardly. Another was that he idolized women rather than seeing them as equals. He was also a sucker for romance, but for the most part was too preoccupied with outside threats to allow anything to develop.

The thing about Ara was that as genuine as he was with people, he withheld many aspects of himself due to the threats of war. He was always concerned that his sister would be a casualty should anything happen, and felt guilty for leaving her to joined the academy, as necessary as it was. He entered training while burying that guilt and all the unspoken dread, and because he was naturally friendly and expressive and outgoing, his new friends didn't question him about it. The whispers of war was like a Sword of Damocles over his head. Even so, despite that, or because of it, Ara was able to be more carefree when it came to the little things; he was able to laugh at himself and make attempts and mistakes, and forgive others easily. He'd already learned that everything he'd known in his life could change overnight.

(I think I'm rambling about him too much, ugh.)

I hate the killing of ladies in SPN. It's like anyone who dated the brothers was doomed to death, or so I hear. From what I've heard, Kira was like the sexy Asian girl trope.

Oh, those sound like really great stories! I'll have to look into them! I can't take Achilles and Patroclus seriously though --or at least think of them without cracking a smile. Several years ago, I was in an RP, and my character was convinced to go as Patroclus by an upperclassman (who was going to be Achilles, and really, he just wanted to get back at his girlfriend for dumping him). It was pretty much a jock meets nerd type of story, but it was hilarious as heck. My poor kid got so hungover, though, but despite the experiences he'd had with the popular crowd, he'd actually ended up making some solid friends and realizing that he'd rather be the way he was instead of pretending to be someone he wasn't.

Aha, go nerdy about it! A lot of people like YYH, and for good reason too! I think was pretty good for its time, but my preferences definitely lean towards HxH. Kuwabara, though; I like him a lot. XD I have a soft spot for Japanese delinquents? (Yusuke counts as one too, I suppose.)

Yeah, you definitely can (see Easter eggs of HxH and Sailormoon stuff), and there are characters in Togashi's story that are heavily influenced by his wife's art.

I should lie down too. XD Night!
