Eh, I was first introduced to the site as a good way to get book recommendations which were based on what you actually liked... but the first 80+ books they recommended, I had already read.
It got tiring.

If I don't think of it primarily as a recommendation site, but instead as a "social connections" sort of thing, then maybe it would work...

The other trouble I had was that I would rate a book highly.... and it would start recommending the exact same book to me, in other editions.

If it's hardcover or paperback or trade, first edition or fifteenth, UK cover or Australian, it's still the same book.


It really was a mis-aligned expectations thing, probably. I went to the site expecting something that wasn't really accurate and then of COURSE that would cause trouble.

I don't use the recommendations much, so I can't say for sure, but it's possible that it's gotten better.

Now you can keep track of all the different times you have read a book too, which was a huge improvement in the site for me because I love to re-read!

Sort of a general tracker for how much you've read? Then you just have to remember to go online and update it... that's kind of a neat feature.

Yup. You can even tell it how many books you want to read in the year, and it will keep track of how many you've read, and tell you how far ahead or behind you are.

That's how you manage to do the reading challenge!
If I don't stick with a really easy - to - track option (like getting through Cantar del Cid) I can't tell how far I am.
