That reminds of my sister's hamster Becky that always managed to escape the cage somehow and I went to catch her.

I even invented a certain "grip" to pick up and hold hamsters in a way that is neither hurtful to them nor gives them the opportunity to bite one's hand (which they like to do if you catch them

).
When Becky died, my sister got a new one - Jessie - who died, too. We're not completely sure what happened, but we often saw her climb on the roof bars of the cage and once we heard a loud slam and found her lying on the back on the floor of the cage, so we assumed that she fell and got hurt. She died shortly later. Poor little girl.
