I think having doubles or even more of items is nice, in case you want to sell or gift them while still having a set for yourself.

Yeah, that's exactly why I work so hard to get multiple sets of the doughnight items, so I can gift and still have some for myself.

Yup! I still try to get doubles if I can, although I have a lot less time to spend on events than I used to. I used to have a friend on here who had a hectic enough life that she sometimes missed events, and I used to keep a set of event items to give her when she missed out. She did the same for me, when I missed one of the spring events.
