So he went and talked to the monument people and the said they could make a headstone with a space in the base of it for his ashes. I thought that was a nice solution since both of their information will be on the stone for future genealogy projects. I just want to be cremated and have my ashes spread in my rose garden.
I assume that means you've made arrangements to keep your rose garden in the family when you're gone...

That really is a nice solution that your father found, to accommodate both wishes.

I would prefer to be buried straight into the dirt and not in a coffin.
The body should be let to rot and return to the soil.. not turned to ash,
or hidden away in a sealed space where no worms can reach.

Ofc I wouldn't mind cremation if the burning of my body
was used as fuel for energy or something! But otherwise,
I feel like it's a waste of resources when animals could
just eat me instead and I could fertilize nature.

a lot of places where I live won't let you be buried without a coffin, but they let you go with untreated wood, and even ask them to hose down the coffin before it's buried (since the wet will make it rot faster). It depends on your local laws, I guess. I've never much understood some of the laws we have here to do with death and human remains disposal, but I guess it's such an emotional topic that you can't really expect logic!

I hope you are allowed to do what you want, wherever you are.

honestly, burial just seems nasty to me. rotting? no thanks.
but it's also a cultural thing/tradition for us south east asians to get cremated, so i always assumed that would be the way i'd go. i can't really imagine the whole funeral procession the way western cultures do it.

This would be great... I still find rotting a bit creepy and would rather just go up in a quick flame, but biodegrading and going back into nature naturally would be my second choice.

I just saw something on TV where a guy died and got an expensive coffin and then they cremated him IN it. Why... why would you... why. Is that some kind of insane status-symbol, like oooh now you have expensive wood ashes mixed in with yours? Madness!!

I'll definitely have to look into that, but god I know there is some
that stick you in a concrete box and THEN a coffiin or something?
I don't get any of it at all honestly... I'd rather bones be found
in the ground than a festering box of remains. Our burial practices
really are a bit of a mystery.. and thank you!!

I think being injected with fluids and altered by a professional...
having my gums and teeth stabbed with huge needles and then
sewn together so my mouth is shut for my open casket is weirder aaaa
But then again I think alot of people don't know what happens..? oof
I barely like people looking at me alive, def don't want people eyeing
my corpse after I've passed away lmao also....

wtf why would you buy a fancy coffin just to burn in it;;; wot

But on the topic of biodegrading and stuff and burial;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcMj4Az1MwE
Little resting forests instead of graveyards would be wonderful..

Haha, I was reading that and getting grossed out and literally thinking "I don't like people looking at me NOW" and that was your next sentence. XD

If I was gonna do any of that, I'd have them prop my eyes open and my mouth gaping in a creepy, open-mouthed snarl-grin, and fix my hands up so they're coming out clawed like a reaching witch. May as well take it alllll the way. :mcsquee:

This made my day XD

Also, where I'm from tradition is to cremate and then pour the ashes into a river or something. I'm still fixed on the turn-me-into-a-diamond idea, buuut if that weren't possible, I'd want them to be poured into a sand pit where children play. Call me creepy but I'd like to be around kids XD

It's not over yet.
There's a lot to look forward to.
Keep going.
You can do this :)

I don't really care what is done with my body when I'm dead. I'll be dead and won't be aware of it.

My granddaughter is all if favor of taxidermy-ing me and keeping me in her room. Or maybe as a mummy.

I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen.
